Tramadol Side Effects

Hi all - I've been taking Tramadol once a day at night (2x50mg) for the last three or so months for arthritis and find I am frequently nodding off in the daytime even, to my horror, at work. Is this a side effect and is there any way I can avoid this while still getting the pain relief from the medication? Thank you so much in advance!

Sorry I had the opposite effect with tramadol. It Felt like I’d 20 cups of strong coffee. I wasn’t getting any sleep at all. Somebody will be along to give you their opinion soon x

Hi there - I took Tramadol and it made me tired. There’s a medical term for what you are going through and it’s called somnolence. I was getting tired from my meds and was falling asleep while driving so my doc put me on a med to help with the tiredness. I’d check with your doc to see if there is one for you.

there is slow release Tramadol you could ask about. Personally knowing how addictive that drug is I was weaned off it and got something else.Consider having a serious conversation with your GP for alternatives either way you will be more alert when you need to be and possibly not a prescription junkie like some others on Tramadol.

It is side effect talk to your Dr as I'm on them and my Dr phoned me fortnight ago to discuss side effects.

Interesting, I feel totally awake if I take tramadol and if I take a dose in the evening I will suffer severe insomnia and will be up until 5am.

It’s interesting how it affects everyone so differently. I have been on and off this medication for years and thankfully I don’t get any addictive side affects (I was worried about this when I first started taking it)

Ask your doctor for an alternative if you are feeling too sleepy

One of the side effects of tramadol can be drowsiness. However it doesnt affect me in that way. Discuss alternatibes with your doctor as there are many alternatives around

I think you need to discuss this with your doctor and no driving whilst taking this.

Your insurance wouldn't cover you and yr licence may be at risk.

Personally I would never take this drug again. It is a highly addictive opiod (akin to heroin) and had some horrible side effects for me (more fuzzy headed, trembles, sleep /no sleep and different pains).

See if you can get another opinion for pain relief.

Changing my diet was the best thing I have ever done wrt pain relief.

Good luck

Yes moo196, Me too...I’ve cut out alcohol and sugar, caffeine. I even had a 6 month period where I ate no nightshade foods( tomatoes, potatoes, aubergine etc) no wheat, no dairy, no red meat and the list went on. I felt way better eating clean. But unfortunately I live in western Canada and it’s crazy expensive to eat fresh fruits and veggies for our 7/8 month winters here.

So I eat everything in moderation now and have definitely noticed what foods make me flare up.

Thank you for the advice. I will have to go down the diet route I think. I hardly drink so I guess it’s other things I need to cut out! X

Tramodol didn’t even touch my pain.

Deep tissue massage therapy helped beyond belief.

That sounds good, I’ll look into that. Is that the same as a sports massage? X
