Can you get a blue badge if you suffer with fibromyalgia?

Hi, I have a blue badge, I have fibro, chronic fatigue, Sjogrens etc. It is assessed on how your Fibro affects you, eg how far you can walk, how near to shops etc you need to park to make it comfortable to access where you need to go If you suffer badly with fatigue as I do, you need to be within close proximity of where you need to go If you can put any thing in from medical people to say your limitations it helps I write a letter in with it as well stateing my limitations Hope thus is of some help, but I would definitely apply Good luck, Regards Sandra x

Hi hun- I tried locally,if you can walk 50 meteres no was the asnwer and they tested me- however my local authority have a parking permit to park on local council car parks for £10 year just as good as a blue badge which will cost you the same now.

my GP wrote a report which helped me get mine. I believe that each local authority can give them without PIP but I guess they might be different it how difficult they make it!

You might trying your local council for an application form write your medical history and it depends how far you can walk hope it helps

ifI have just received my Blue Badge renewal form.

Here in Sandwell you automatically awarded one if you get the mobility pip component,

If you dont get PIP you can still apply by filling in the form, it may be that you are entitled under another scheme.

My local council said if you haven't got high mobility then no badge. Well that is what they told me. However a friend of mine without PIP sent letter from her consultant(she has lung disease) and self same council gave her a blue badge. So it is very patchy in same place.

I have one and don't claim any benefits. I submitted the form with copy letter of my diagnosis and was asked to attend an appointment with the local authority's occupational therapist. After having a twenty minute interview and her accompanying me on a walk back to reception she said I would hear within two weeks. I duly did and the blue badge arrived. It has totally transformed my life. If you do get one be prepared for the general public to comment on a regular basis - I have built up quite a collection of answers!

I have a blue badge didn't think I would get it this year as hadn't heard from them but then I phoned them up and they said I should have heard a month a go, so we did it over the phone and I did get it renewed, they used the same photo of 3 years ago as he asked if I had changed and I said no more the pity lol

As others say you are automatically eligible for a blue badge if you get enhanced mobility element of PIP. That's how I got mine.

In theory though you shouldn't have to get PIP to qualify. But it doesn't matter what condition you have, like PIP, it's more about how it effects your life/mobility. You could have one condition that effects you severely enough to qualify, or 20 conditions that are mild and you don't qualify.

Broadly speaking if you don't have the PIP element then contact your local council who will probably send you a form to fill in. Might be worth sending a doctors supporting letter with it. You'll very likely then have to go for as assessment. But it will be based on things like how far you can walk etc.

I say broadly speaking because councils do tend to differ in qualifying criteria and most will charge you £10 a year for it, but not all.

I would suggest you go online and suss out your local councils requirements for application and then have a word with your GP, or other appropriate medical professional, to see if they will support you in your application. Though again most GPs will charge for such a letter.

I got my Blue Badge long before I was awarded DLA. All I had to do was fill in a form and get my GP to sign it. No problems.
