Occupational health

Hi all, hope all are well. just a quick question, in regards to having adaptions made to my current home (council property) I was thinking of asking my gp if she could refer me to my local occupational health. is that the right way to do it or would a self referral be OK?

Thanks in advance for any replies :-)

Have you asked the council as they usually have their own occupational therapists who carry out the evaluations?

If not ask your GP. xx

Hi

You will need a assessment from OT this can be referral from GP or self referral, next would be applying for disabled access grant from Council OTs can do this on your behalf. Grants are means tested and you would need a financial assessment

Often the best time to apply is just before Christmas as they may have funds left or Feb before start of their financial year .

Good luck

Hi Hidden ,

If you live in England the best way to go is to get on to Adult Social Services in your area, and ask them to refer you to get an Occupational Health Assessment. They will keep you right.

GPs are taking on less and less involvement with Benefits and Social Care issues because of all the cuts in money and lack of time to spend with each patient.

Just a point of interest. Every person ( in Eng.) with a Disability is entitled to a free assessment of their needs for care, or for home adjustments, and equipment. The reason I say England is that in other parts of the UK there are sometimes different guidelines.

Hope this helps.

Take care.

GP. 😊😊

Hi Hidden

I agree with your other respondents that adult social services is probably the best way to go and they can send you out an OT to assess you. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you
