Almost got fired

It was a close call really.... I thought I lost my job. As a nurse it's pretty bad when you don't go to work, let alone sleeping through the shift. I was so sick sat morning I heard my alarm and slept through it. My manager called me today. Luckily I was given a another chance to make up for the terrible behaviour. Consistently feel like I'm getting hit by a truck every morning doesn't help the situation. I'm working hard to get through this. I only needed that one last shift to qualify for a sick leave. But I think I may just try to avoid day shifts, and stick to evenings. I want to try that before dumping this job completely. Not a good situation

Bless you.....it must be so hard for you...In some ways I am glad I am well over retirement age and do not have your worries. Have you thought through what you will do if s... happens? I so admire your profession...you have to put up with so much (not from the patients!) but management...you should bring them down on the ward occasionally to see how it goes....sorry Admin will tell me off for getting political...How long could you sick leave be if you can get over the next shift? Hang in there...xx

Thanks. I get 15 weeks of sick leave. Which isn't a lot of money to begin with. If it's my choice I will keep working but I think my body needs a rest.

Is it possible for you to do hours that suit you? Mind you, you would have to be a mind reader to know when you can work...xx.

Well I dropped my part time position now so I have just kept it as casual. It will give me more flexibility with less commitments

Being a nurse most be hard work for you, I take my hat of to you, I gave up work 3 years ago and know I'm not well enough to go back, I'm 45 and my working days are well and truly gone, think we have to listen to our bodies and know what we can and can't do, xx🙂

What a pity and you were doing so well. Evenings might be a better bet for you if mornings are your worse time. It does sound as though you need a complete rest asap.x

I really empathise with you looking4me. I've had to stop work as a nurse. I found the brain fog was causing me to make basic errors and more alarmingly medication errors. Also the pain was becoming worse. I've applied for early retirement on grounds of ill health.

It sounds as though your manager isn't particularly sympathetic towards your situation. Seems like bullying behaviour. If you can no longer work it makes things so difficult for you. What has occupational health advised?

I wish there was something I could say to help.

Wishing you well looking4me. Take care.
