To be completely honest with you I can't remember if this one is means tested or not!  I think it is, but it is also subject to how much National Insurance you have paid when you've been working.

Hi I think you may find that your partners income will be taken into account.  The initial forms you complete are in two columns to record your details and your partners.  As has been said, depending upon your income, they'll decide if you qualify for income based or contributions based which relates to your NI contributions.  So in the first instance your financial circumstances are clarified and then your medical needs.

Hi yes you can I had it for my husband became ill. But I think if you don't get contributed rate, which means in your own right you have worked and got enough stamps on.

If you haven,t worked and paid a stamp the it is based on your income so in this case you might not.

When my husband became ill we was asked if we wanted a joint claim or individual.

We chosen individual because ever time they looked at either one of us the other was looked at, at the same time.

Remember to ask if you qualify for contributing rate in your own right.

You should know if you do because it would mean you have been working for at least the pasted 2 years paying a stamp.

I don't think it will count I know you get your stamps paid while saying at home with childern but I really don't think you will get anything but there's no harm in asking..

I worked most school hours and weekend so was able to do both.

I think the only thing you might get is PIP if you qualify that is not income tested at all, depends what you need help with.

CAB or welfare rights will tell you but I know the income based is only around £200 aweek for 2 adults.

I know this because we could have had income based if it was more than ours put together, we get £109.30 aweek each so we were just out of it.

Makes me wounder though if we hadn,t worked we would have got income based and free dental free eyes tests and a lot less council tax to pay. And we have been after cavity wall insulation which for our house costs around £3495 and can't get a penny towards it but would have got it all paid for if we had been on income based.

Swings and roundabouts but I am proud of working for what I have and wouldn,t change it.

I would have been getting my pension if they hadn,t changed the age limit. I have learnt to be greatful for what I do get.

Hope this puts light on things for you but like I say go and ask you just never know.

Sorry for got to add my husband was bring home well over £300 aweek and I still got mine.

I had to finish work due to ill health and had enough contributions.
