Hi vbomber,

I'm not sure that there is any difference as Fibro is a chronic problem. I know you can have spells where the pain dies down a bit, but then flares up. That is usual course of fibro I've never been aware of what you call acute, unless that is counted as the same thing as a flare !

Sorry if I haven't been helpful, but I only go by what I know and have experienced .

Best wishes

Foggy x

Thanks Foggy, I think I should have said does anyone have pain all the time with no break.

Hi Dave, I think the answer is yes, a number of people do unfortunately, but most of those do tend to have other things going on too. I think a lot of us are worn out and that impacts on our pain levels. Could I ask how long you have been suffering with fibro and how it is for you ? :-)

Foggy x

Hi Foggy, i'm all most sure mine started in 2009 after getting pneumonia, first lot of antibiotics didn't work and I fell ill again, after the second lot I got better, but with in a week my feet and fingers got very painful(hard to bend) got fobbed of by the doctor saying some antibiotics can give out arthritic effects, I suffered on and off with these pains until the middle of 2012, when all hell broke loose.

I have pains almost everywhere now, most of the time I can deal with them but when my feet play up bad I can hardly walk.

I've been taking Tramadol 50mg for about 7 months and Citalopram 20mg as my aggresion and stress levels went through the roof, on Monday my Doctor(who is brilliant) worked out after all the tests that had Fibro and may have CFS as well, i'm still on Citalopram and now Gabapentin 300mg but dropped the Tramadol for the time being and so far everything seems to be going OK fingers crossed with just a few twinges a day :) the thing I find the hardest to deal with is the tired/worn out no drive days that I have :(

Oh well, all this typing is bad for me fingers LOL

Dave :)

Hi Dave, I am fairly new to this but have been in constant pain for many months and only recently got a possible diagnosis, I say possible as my GP is refusing to commit himself and says I have traits of fybromyalgia. I have recently swapped the citalopram for amitriptyline but retained the 300mg gabapentin but I am having to top up with 2x 30mg cocodamol several times a day just to keep the pain bearable. I don't think fybromyalgia has classifications of chronic or acute as everyone experiences pain differently and has a different tolerance of pain relief. As for how it started, who knows, I just know my pain is continuing to increase daily and I would really just like my normal life back.

Yes, my mobility is so restricted I constantly use sticks in the home or walking frame and an electric wheelchair if I want to go shopping etc. Had all tests to rule out MS but it is constant.
