Initially it was prescribed to help me sleep but after doing a questionnaire for my GP, she said that I was also scoring quite high on the depression level. I must say, it has helped.

My son took Mirtazepine for a year - he says it saved his life! It must be good stuff, 'cos he hates taking medicine of any sort.

I tried Mirtazapine for awhile, it was prescribed for depression and the good points were that it helped me sleep better than I had in years and it helped with my IBS! Bad points: I put on two stone in as many months, it increased my appetite and I felt hungry all the time. I also became a bit of a zombie so I switched meds. I am still trying to get that extra two stone off a year on!

I was put onto mirtazapine , after being so tired and stressed and depressed after my husbands death with cancer. I did as you do lots of research and asked lots of questions. I have a very sensitive brain, and tiredness is my downfall. The main grate of this drug is too balance the serotonin in the brain, hopefully to make you feel not so depressed. I still suffer tiredness, even if I only take a quarter of a 15 mg at night an usually depending on the day I had before. I wake feeling ok. But by mid afternoon, need a good hours sleep. Hopefully it will work I've only been on this for six weeks. I'm 44 years old.
