NK cells and pcos -steroids or hydroxychloroquine?

Hi all, I’m under Prof Shehata’s NHS clinic (recurrent miscarriage )and my results showed raised NK cells although activation markers were in range. Everything else pretty good too although AMH was very high which is not necessarily a good thing and suggests that my PCOS is back (was diagnosed approx 10 years ago and managed to control it with diet and lifestyle.) I have been prescribed Prednisolone (along with aspirin, omeprazole and cyclogest) but not Hydroxycholoroquine yet a friend who was under the same clinic was just put on Hydroxy…. Reading about the steroids a side effect is insulin resistance which I already have and am predisposed to both gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes due to my PCOS and also a family history. So as you can imagine I’m now super anxious about taking the steroids as don’t want them to cause further risk of diabetes. Has anybody been on this same protocol with a history of PCOS/diabetes and found it to be ok? I’m anxious about getting gestational diabetes if we do have a successful pregnancy.

thanks so much !

Hi, i followed the same protocol but was also advised to take Inofolic acid/myo inositol to control the sugar levels. Similar to you with pcos and history of diabetes in the family. I've been borderline diabetic but controlled with diet and exercise and since being on the Prednisone and myo inositol my sugar is actually lower then ever so you should be ok. I've done 8 rounds now with steroids and the intralipids. 4 have worked but all resulted in miscarriage between 7-9 weeks. He did prescribe me the hcq though but he assesses everyone differently and bases your protocol on your individual circumstances so don't worry about others. I didn't get omeprazole for example. Good luck

Ok thank you this is really helpful ! I have contacted them asking if there’s a reason I’m on the steroids and not hydroxy etc but they won’t answer without me having an appointment but that could be a huge wait! I am already on myo inositol but not inofolic so might try that too. Thanks so much! He said the omeprazole is to counteract the gastro effects of the steroids !
