Embryo grading

Hi everyone - I'm curious what you all know and what success you've had with different embryo gradings. My husband and I have a fet coming up and from my egg retreival cycle in December we ended up with 6 eupliod embryos 2 are graded 4AB, 2 are graded 4BB and the last 2 are graded 4CB. The 4 higher graded ones are through ICSI and the 2 lower graded ones (4CB) are conventional. My gut is to try to transfer the highest rated embryo, but y husband feels strongly about trying to use a conventional embryo, which are the lower graded ones.

Wondering if anyone's had success with lower graded embryos?

Personally, I would definitely go with the 4AB. Please do you mind me asking why your husband wants to go with a “conventional” embryo - what is his reasoning? There’s no difference between embryos which have been fertilised “normally”, and those which have been given a helping hand via ICSI. You’ve probably spent thousands of pounds on IVF, and I’m not sure why you would intentionally tie one hand behind your back by choosing a lower-graded embryo - when you’ll have a better chance with the higher graded ones (although of course there are no certainties). I think your clinic will probably advise the same. Good luck x

Agree with everything Football61 has said. Let the embryologist take the lead with this - they are the experts xx

Hi! My baby daughter was a 4AB embryo from ICSI. My clinic would transfer the top graded embryo first as a matter of policy. Very best of luck with your FET!

Had a beautiful baby that was 4AB. Suggest going with the high graded ones first. Good luck and lots and lots of baby dust your way. xx

Currently 16 weeks with a 4BB, we had three 4BBs and this was the 3rd, they transferred the ‘better’ ones first. Personally I always felt better letting the embryologists decide what to do xx

Very best of luck to you!!!!

ICSI is no less conventional than IVF. ICSI helps create better embryos often if needed. Your clinic most likely won’t let you choose anyway, clinics nearly always transfer the best embryo first.

Good luck! These are loads of good embryos. And all have a chance.

I had to read this several times to work out what ‘conventional’ means lol as others have said there is no difference between ICSI fertlised or IVF once the sperm has fertlised the egg. Your embryologist normally chooses the one with the best chance in their view and that’s why they visually rate them too so they will go with the 4AB (no matter if it was ICSI or IVF as that’s not at all relevant really) for your transfer, not even sure they will ask you about that as the clinic will also want to have the best chance of success. In saying that I have had ‘perfect ‘5AAs not work and a 4BC (fertilised with ICSI btw) bring us our little boy so it’s just their best guess from what they know at that moment really and they all have the potential to be your wee miracle! Good luck! xx
