low grade embryo success?

Hi ladies,

A little back ground, I am currently on my second cycle of ivf, last year I had two failed single transfers and a cancelled transfer, then had to have laparoscopic surgery to remove an endometrioma before starting again.

So here we are again, I had 5 embryos ahead of where they should be on my day 3 call (Saturday) so they decided to wait till my day 5 to pick the best one. On Monday when I went in I was told 2 were still going but very low grade 😞 none were viable for freezing. Devastated. So I had a double transfer of a 3bc and a 4cc. I know you shouldn’t compare to other people but this TWW is feeling hopeless. Has anyone had any success with such low graded embryos?

Thanks in advance ladies ❤️

I haven't had experience with transferring these grades but we did have a 3BC embryo on day 5, they let it develop until day 6, when it became a 5BB. So there is always hope and the embryos literally change every minute! All fingers crossed for you! xx

Thank you lovely 😊 that’s good to hear. We know we shouldn’t put so much foclus on grading but it’s hard not to isn’t it 😩

Thanks for you reply 😘

I wouldn't class those as low grades, they aren't bad at all. You must remember that a grading is a point in time snapshot of an embryo and they can easily become something else a few minutes later as they continue to develop. All hope is not lost and I have seen many a pregnancy from much lower grade embryos on here than that! Heaps of luck x

Thanks so much for your reply I needed that. The way the embryologist was talking was like all was lost, saying sorry to me ect, and she also said if they wasn’t transferred they wouldn’t be strong enough to freeze so think that’s freaked me out.

Thanks again for your reply ❤️

Hi Kgee. Give them a chance. They are back inside you where they belong, and hopefully will catch up. Fingers crossed! Diane

Please remember that a 3bc or 4cc at 34 years has more chances than a higher grade from a 38+ woman. The biggest factor is age and you got this on your side. All the best.

No personal experiences, but grading is of of the factors impacting the final result. Good luck x

Hey thanks so much for you reply. Sorry if I’m being a bit stupid but I’m not sure what you mean? Ha x

I mean you do not need to worry about low grading. Grading a) depends on the clinic and varies b) there is the composition of factors impacting the final result. A cycle with best quality embryos might fail cos e.g. of timing or lab mistakes. A woman can be pregnant with low graded embryos cos of great job of fertility docs and lab.

Ah i get it. Thanks so much for your response. Its definitely put my mind at rest. I wish clinics didn’t put so much focus on grading. Xx
