I’m 39. I’m doing “everything right”. Eat. Sleep. Diet. Acupuncture. And guess what? I’m cycle 2 of IVF and my follicles just aren’t growing. There’s about 6 in total.
Doctor has given me Luveris - which is an extra stim to help “very slow” responders. I’m so sad. Why is my body doing this? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. 😢

I’m so sorry and I totally feel your pain. It sucks and it’s not fair. It’s okay to be angry and sad and all the emotions. One of the hardest things for people going through IVF is the inability to control how their body responds. The lack of control causes the most anguish.
In your first stim cycle, did any follicles grow, or none at all? If you get a regular period, you should have at least one follicle produce an egg a month.
Some women in your situation will go forward with collection and have one egg collected. At the end of the day, it’s about egg quality not quantity. I ended up doing this.
I have had an average of 6 follicles per cycle (this is my 2nd cycle. The 1st cycle was canceled due to early ovulation). Yes. I also have a regular period.
Thankyou for your comments. This little bit of light helps so much. You’re so right, this inability to control my own body (when my heart and mind want otherwise) is pretty challenging.
Well, I would say this is good news. You have the ability to produce good, dominant eggs regularly, your doctor just hasn’t found the right combination of hormones and meds yet (the premature ovulation indicates that). You also have more immature eggs, hence the other follicles.
Every woman’s body is different and will need a different combination of hormones. They don’t always get it right the first try, or the second. There is no ‘standard’ one size fits all.
What I would say is that if the specialist does not try to change things up each cycle, and continues on with the same thing with the same result, you may want to try a different specialist.
I added in luveris in 2 of my natural modified IVF cycles and I actually read its really good for egg quality....I ended up with 4 top quality blastocysts from those 2 cycles (I only got a total of 9 eggs across the 2 collections) and 2 of them are my 5 month old twins and the other 2 are still frozen
Hey! I also feel your pain. I'm 29 but my AMH is low and I've had 2 failed cycles where I had very few follicles develop. They added luveris into my second IVF cycle to help with egg quality. We did have an egg fertilise that was transferred which was good and probably down to the luveris but unfortunately resulted in a second negative test. But my clinic have also said focus on quality over quantity as I also just don't get the numbers. I only had 5 collected on my second cycle. Luveris is said to help with quality so keep thinking quality over quantity and keep that hope! I wish you luck and baby dust xxxx
