Hi everyone, I have my EC planned for Wednesday through the NHS. The egg collection will be conducted under conscious sedation, does this hurt?

Hi Avo-cuddle ! How exciting 🥰 I do hope all goes well for you!

I can only speak from personal experience - and only had one EC. It did not hurt. I had conscious sedation. I felt a little bit of pain initially, but it was not bad and they gave me a little more medication - after this I hardly remember anything. I remember asking how many they got - but it is all such a blur. It was a lovely feeling in recovery, I slept for a bit, then had a hot drink and cheese sandwich - it was weirdly amazing for such a simple meal! I then got all my information and went home. I did feel sore the day after, bloated and just very tender (weirdly I had not thought about after, so it did catch me off guard 😇). But was told I could take Paracetamol if needed, I only took 1 gram the morning after and did not need anymore, but I did take it easy for a few days.

Wishing you all the best for Wednesday!! 🤞

I also had conscious sedation, the anaesthetist is with you the whole time, I did feel a little discomfort (not pain) at one point and if you tell them they make it go away :-) due to covid I had to take in my own sandwiches so just do what they advise. The following day I was bloated and a little sore but nothing a few paracetamol won't sort out, I had a couple of days off work and took it easy. You will be fine, the thought of it is always worse than the reality. Good luck X x

Hi

I’ve had this twice and both occasions were absolutely fine for me. Didn’t feel a thing!

It’s a bit of a weird experience probably best described as that fuzzy feeling you have after a few too many G&T’s 😂

Anyway, best of luck to you. You’ll be fine 😊 xx

I’ve only had one EC, I was fully asleep from the drugs they gave me. No recollection, then in recovery I couldn’t remember asking my husband the same question 3 times 😂. So the conscious sedation for me was fine. Good luck x

Hi lovely, just wanted to echo the other ladies comments. I remember asking the same question when I had my first collection and the comments really put my mind at rest that I felt relaxed on the day.I had sedation and to be honest it was like I was asleep for it all! Don’t remember a thing and come round in a different room.

Its much better than a general as I didn’t have that horrible groggy fuzzy head feeling.

All the best for the collection xxx
