Messed up period with IUI

So I had my first medicated IUI in January 2021 and unfortunately it failed. I was on progesterone up until I took a pregnancy test which was negative and 2 days after coming off my period came. It was a heavy bleed for the first day and then settled down for a few days.

I was due to start my next round in March and worked out my period to be due on 1st March so I have all the medication and everything in place good to go. This week I started spotting a week early. This is unusual for me as up until starting IUI I’ve always been bang on my due date pretty much. Rang the clinic and they advised it’s normal to start bleeding irregularly after IUI as my body is adjusting to all the hormones and then I’ll likely start a full bleed in the next day or so. 3 days later I’m still just spotting brown blood, no full normal flow has stared and the clinic have told me I must wait and count day 1 from the first day of a full bleed. However I don’t feel like it’s going to happen, I feel like my spotting is just going to stop and that’s it.

Has anyone else experienced this? It’s worrying me that if it doesn’t show I have to wait another month and see what next months bleed is like or do you think it’s likely I’ll start a proper period next week when my due date is.

Hello i dont have any advice but i do often spot just before my day 1 period starts and on the odd occasionut has lasted 4-5 days but usually 2-3 days. Im also considering doing IUI in my next cycle if i can find a good climic near me. Is your clinic in London? What made you go for iui? Any tips on what to look out for would be helpful xx

Thanks for replying. That’s comforting to know. My clinic is Bourn hall in Cambridge. I went for that one purely because it’s close to me and their success rates are good. Basically I’m single 32 and don’t have any desire to meet the perfect one, I’ve always been very independent and happy with my life but I do feel the need to become a mum and wanted to try IUI using a donor before age isn’t on my side.

It’s been an emotional rollercoaster but I’m pleased I’m trying it and hope one day it will work.

I know a lot of people who have had treatment at bourn hall and I knew the staff were friendly and accepting and that’s really all I went with.

Good luck!!!!
