4th Stims Scan today - some follicles have shrunk and/or disappeared since medication change was forced on me by clinic!

Hi All,

I had my 4th stims scan today and discovered that since yesteday's scan where i had:-

Left ovary: 4 follicles of 19.5mm, 18mm, 13mm and 10.2mm

Right ovary: 3 follicles of 15.4mm, 14.4mm and 6.3mm.

Today I now have:-

Left ovary: 4 follicles of 22.3mm, 20.3mm, 12.2mm and 9.7mm.

Right ovary: 3 follicles of 16.5mm, 6.9mm and 5.7mm.

The clinic in Bristol failed to advise me that they were discontinuing using Menopur on 1st November and were moving to Meriofert so when I went for my scan on Monday and said i need more Menopur they had none in the cupboard and there was no time to get a prescription as i needed to take my meds that afternoon. So i had no choice but to reluctantly accept Meriofert which they claimed is identical to Menopur.

However it is not, its different sources of HCG, different brand and manufacturer. I expressed my concern at changing on day 11 of my Stims but they had none.

Now since the switch of meds on Monday night, 2 of my follicles on the left ovary have shrunk (13mm to 12.2mm and 10.2mm to 6.3mm). And on the right my 14.4mm follicle has disappeared or shrank to a 6.9mm. In addition i was feeling very bloated and twinges from Menopur since the switch these symptoms have mainly gone and i feel nothing in my ovaries. The clinic says this sometimes happens and its nothing to do with the meds change. I said the bloating only goes after egg collection as the follicles grow until then. I said why would the follicles disappear or shrink when i was told they are definitely recruited for this cycle if they get to 11 or 12mm.

At this point I have gone from a potential 6 eggs to 3 since yesterday.

Do you think its the drugs change? I think it is likely but they are saying not.

I think why would the clinic not look at their patients on Menopur mid cycle and keep enough in the cupboard for top ups or at least let me know in advance so i had a chance of getting Menopur on a private prescription? not drop it on me on the day so i had no choice in the matter. I even mentioned on Friday 30th at my scan i would need more drugs and the lead nurse said lets wait until monday and didn't mention the clinic meds change coming into effect on 1st Nov. I find this unacceptable.

Any thoughts or experiences of this and switching meds mid cycle? Its less than ideal and they should not have done this. At the end of the day it could have been fine but changing a variable like this is a risk. They told me not to have a flu jab so how can this matter but not a meds change!!

My last cycle they said I was a poor responder with 3 eggs on 300 iu ovaleap so now i must be a poor responder again on 450 iu menopur...now 450 iu meriofert for last 3 days!!

Would you be ok with this? I am paying privately and have no more finances left so this cycle was our last chance and it feels ruined.

They told me to trigger at midnight for a Friday egg collection but I'm fuming. Also one of my follicles are 22.3mm (at 11am today) and they said they want max 24mm else it goes "past its best" so that one may spoil before i trigger! Or is it max 24mm at last scan or max 24mm at trigger?

Help :(. I don't know what to think or do, the stress they have caused me with this unplanned meds change is unreal.

xxx

I’m so sorry to hear this has happened to you.

I don’t have any advice but just wanted to reach out and say that despite the medication stuff up, I hope you good results at EPU. In regards to the max size, I’ve had ones 26mm that they say were great size at my last scan? But each clinic could have different parameters.

Good luck lovely xx

Hi, in the end they rescanned me the next day and the one songographer got it rather wrong the previous let’s say. There was no shrinkage or the disappearing 14.5mm - it was then 18mm!

The clinic said they don’t know what went wrong with that scan but I now have the original 5 large follicles back apparently.

We’ll see as egg collection is today. Not impressed by the stressed caused. It seems as if the ever changing sonographers provide inconsistent scan results - although never has it gone down by half the follicles overnight so that particular sonographer is having a review so the nursing director said. They think it was that only wrong scan and it unfortunately coincided with meds change.

On track hopefully for 5 eggs which i think is ok for my age at 42 🤞

Fortunally they got it wrong, but I understand about the stress. Good luck for today!
