Ectopic pregnancy.

After a rollercoaster 2/3 weeks we have been told that our pregnancy is ectopic. Hcg levels on Monday where 972. We got a scan today to see if there was a sac but nurse couldn’t see anything and even got another nurse to check to make sure.

Got another blood test after the scan and got results back tonight hcg now 2100. We are so confused about this. How long does it take to confirm a diagnosis from a ectopic pregnancy? Your help and advise would be much appreciated.

Did they not see where the sac was? When I had mine they could see it in the tube when they did an internal scan? What have they said to do? Are you still at the hospital?

So sorry to read this post! It’s horrible thing to go through. Please take time to heal xxx

Hi Sarah, no they couldn’t see anything from the scans. The consultant is referring us to our local hospital to see the early pregnancy unit.

We went through iui privately at a fertility clinic so it’s out of there hands now as they have done there part. It needs proper investigating. We don’t know how long this referral will take. I’m so worried for my partner 😔 we both don’t know what’s going on

Lauren, please call the EPU direct. They will likely get you inASAP. Ectopics are dangerous when left, due to ruptures.

I know it’s horrible hun, but please call them. They will know what to do xx

Yea I know they are dangerous it’s scaring me. My partner has no pain or any bleeding. I just don’t know why you couldn’t see anything from the internal scan? Sooo confused. Thank you il get my partner to phone tomorrow hun x

Sarah83ap in reply toLauren85

They might not have the trained eye to see it where as EPU will.

Sending you guys loads of love. Look after each other. Xx

Well for all the money we have spent on iui am hoping for a quick referral from the hospital. So I hope the consultant from the fertility clinic makes this happen!! X

I would contact your GP say you are pregnant, they will refer you to a midwife. I’m 6 weeks pregnant now and I’m a high risk if ectopic and my midwife has organised for me to have a scan tomorrow so all very quick. Good luck xx

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope the hospital will give you some answers soon. If your partner is experiencing pain I would go to the hospital straight away and not wait until a refferal comes though. Sending hugs ♥️

I have the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy stuck in my mind so I’m very aware and I keep asking my partner if she’s feeling ok and she said yes. So il keep asking her every hour if I have to ❤️

Hey hun sorry your going through this I’ve had two on my first one I was 7 weeks and they never detected it on a scan my numbers where just rising slowly my tube ruptured on my second one I was 5 weeks and was detected on a scan so they don’t always show just look out for pain etc and I would definitely call the EPU to try and help you they no more about them I was told my bloods are rising so wait and see but the epu new straight away it was ectopic it’s such a shame and hope yous are ok I know how worrying it is and so hard to deal with xx

Lauren85 in reply toCmc2020

So sorry to hear that. That’s so sad 😔 this journey is a nightmare. Can consultants be wrong? He said it’s ectopic but how can he be sure when he hasn’t even seen anything on the scan

Cmc2020 profile image
Cmc2020 in reply toLauren85

That’s the way I was thinking the first time there would defo be a sac seen on bloods over 1500 so they go with that and obv they are slow rising so that’s how they know and I know it is a nightmare x

My first ectopic wasn’t visible until hcg reached 3500 - I would get an urgent referral to EPU though as a I’ve a certain level you can’t be given methotrexate to try and treat the ectopic that way

Lauren85 profile image
Lauren85 in reply toIvfgotadream

Yea the consult from our fertility clinic is making a referral tomorrow for us. So I hope we are seen over the weekend at least. Sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy. How did they diagnose it? We had a scan today and nothing was seen

Hi Lauren, I feel for you it is such an emotional rollercoaster, completely out of your control & if it’s anything like my experience the consultants take time to decide whether it’s a PUL or ectopic or viable or a missed miscarriage, all of which is heartbreaking for you as the patient; but it’s the right thing if there’s a chance everything could be ok.

Unfortunately in my own experience it was a PUL the first time they never found anything (treated by methotrexate) and a missed miscarriage the second & third time. On the second occasion I remember there was a tiny ‘something’ which they initially thought was a sac but then decided it wasn’t & I eventually miscarriaged but my HCG level was also coming down (as with the PUL my levels were going up). If I remember rightly, they said after u reach 1500 they should technically be able to see something, viable or not - but mine unfortunately never appeared!

I wish you & your partner all the luck & hope in the whole. You will get through this, it’s bloody tough but it could all turn out to be ok. Remember the hospitals have people you can talk too, if you feel this would help.

So sorry for your loss aswell, life’s cruel 😔 our hcg levels are sitting at 2100 and 972 on Monday so it’s jumped up in a matter of 3 days. We just don’t know what to think? The scan showed nothing

I’m so sorry. I had an ectopic in July and honestly one of the hardest things I’ve ever dealt with. I had no pain at all but it landed up rupturing (after hcg was rising and methotrexate didn’t work), so I would agree with the other ladies in that your partner should go to EPU sooner rather than later. Sending lots of love and thoughts your way x

Hi, i am so sorry you are going through this. I had an ectopic pregnancy three years ago and had a lot of left sided back and hip pain. I went to the doctor and they scanned me but couldn't find anything as well. My tube ended up rupturing two days later. However, my hcg levels were creeping up very slowly. At 7 weeks i was only at 800 and then 2 days later it was like 950 so definitely abnormally rising. I just wanted to give you my story because I too had a scan where nothing could be seen at all. I hope everything turns out okay. Let me know if you have any questions.

We found out that we are 6weeks pregnant and the hcg levels are 2132 I don’t know if this is normal range for being 6 weeks

Sloop14 profile image
Sloop14 in reply toLauren85

The range is so big for HCG levels that 2000 does fall within the 6 week range but on the lower side of things. Are they planning on scanning again? Usually when hcg is above 1500 they should be able to see something on the scan

I had an ectopic, my HCG levels were above 5,500, and even in my case they couldn't find anything with a scan. That's because the scan looks into the uterus, not in the tubes. The diagnosis comes from HCG levels above 1,500, but nothing to see.

I had surgery, and had my right tube removed. I was bleeding and in pain since the positive test.

2,000 perhaps means the embryo isn't too big yet, perhaps the ectopic pregnancy can be removed with medicines rather than with a surgery.

Be strong! I send you both a strong hug.

Keep up your hope, after a few months I had another go at IVF, and now I have a 15 months old daughter <3

So we are just home from the hospital. They have excluded an ectopic pregnancy. And confirmed it as a non viable pregnancy 😔
