38yrs old I’ve been trying naturally for 2 years so Dr has said IVF May be best chance. I’m thinking of paying private for initial investigation tests to speed things up but haven’t yet decided 1 if I will have IVF and if so whether to have a round on NHS (I qualify) or go private. My main question is ‘will The nhs accept the test results I obtain privately if I decide to have a free round? and if I have the tests privately will I be tied to that clinic for IVF if I choose to have it privately? It would another private clinic accept the results? I wouldn’t want to have them all again. Hope this makes sense!! Any advice welcome!!

Hi, we weren’t eligible for NHS funding but had some tests done via our local hospital via GP and then by gynae, we then were referred to a private clinic where we had a pelvic ultrasound and semen analysis as they wouldn’t accept the NHS results (our local hospital does not do IVF). We then decided to move clinic due to a bad experience and our new clinic were happy to accept those taken by the original clinic as they were recent. I think this will vary dependent upon where you go. Good luck whatever you decide x

I agree - I think it depends where you go. I have gone private as I’m not eligible for NHS funding and they encouraged me to go to my GP for the screening tests. Just done those and clinic is reviewing them- having accepted the results. I’ve seen a couple of posts here where the NHS have not accepted tests done privately but have no experience which I can base anything on. NHS for me was swift and didn’t take long to do. Good luck with your journey x

Hi, we got private tests done but it didn’t speed anything up with the nhs. They wanted to do their own tests. We ended up doing 3 private rounds of ivf while we waited to get our nhs round. For us the wait for nhs tests & treatment seemed so long (which is why we went private) but it depends on where in the country you are. I don’t know whether private clinics accept results from other clinics but I would imagine it’s dependant on the clinic so it’s maybe best to call a couple of the ones you’re considering to check their policy. X

Hi,I hope ur ok. I was in the same situation as u. We went to have all the investigations privately and nhs refused to take the results n wanted to do their own which too nearly a year. So we ended up doing ivf with the same clinic we did the investigation with. I don’t think other private clinics will accept ur results if it’s not with them because that’s what we were told.

I hope everything goes well for u :)

I’m just about to start my first NHS cycle & had a mix of private and nhs results. All scans, hubby’s sperm analysis & AMH private and day 3, hormone, thyroid & progesterone tests on nhs, our hospital accepted that no problem xx
