So after 18 months TTC, polycystic ovaries and abnormal sperm later me and my husband have our first appointment at our local NHS fertility clinic today.
I’m wondering what today will bring, if any of you have any suggestions of questions I might need to ask that would be a big help?

Hi good luck at the clinic. I had a load of questions on the day but I think the best advice I can give (if you haven't already done it) is look up your clinic on the HFEA website and look at their statistics (live births, multiple rates etc.) So you know some information about the clinic going in.
If you have sperm issues I'm guessing you'll be having ICSI rather than conventional IVF. As you have PCO you can ask about whether they think long or short protocol will be more effective/safer for you.
This is just your preliminary appointment so it'll mainly be explaining the process and getting you to think about what consents you'll need to give before treatment can start. A little bit further down the line when they tell you what they intend to do (which drugs, which protocol) don't be afraid to ask why that's the best one for you.

If I remember correctly your first appointment will be a lot of information gathering about you & your husband. I think I had a scan & bloods taken on the initial appointment too.
Its exciting having your first appointment - I remember really feeling like the ball was finally rolling. Not sure specifically what questions you could be asking but hopefully you’ll find your appointment informative and have an idea what happens next.

I will be getting a date through soon for my first app too I did have one booked for July but I got pregnant again before but mc. I really am in two minds about it I just want to get pregnant before again.

How did you find your appointment? What was involved? If you don’t mind me asking.
Of course not, we just got measured and weighed and then asked lots of questions. I’ve got to have more blood tests and my husband has to give another semen sample. I’ve also got to have a hysterosalpingogram which I think checks my tubes. We go back in 2 months time for our results.

It’s essentially an X-ray of your uterus and tubes to check for any abnormalities in the shape or for any blockages in your tubes xx

It is, and it isn’t. It’s an x-ray examination of a woman's uterus and fallopian tubes that uses a special form of x-ray called fluoroscopy and a contrast material. Fluid is passed through your uterus and tubes, like a dye, and is done via a catheter. It’s a standard test prior to fertility treatment xx
