First IVF appointment - what to expect?

Hi everyone 👋🏼

I was referred to start IVF by my consultant and have just had the call from the fertility centre (mine is the Liverpool Women’s) for my first appointment. To say I’m excited is a severe understatement! I was wondering if any of you lovelies could tell me what to expect or if you have experience of this centre? I’m not expecting anything absolutely groundbreaking to happen at the initial appointment, but just so I can prepare some questions!

Thank you 😊❤️ xxx

Hey there. Yes it is exciting to be starting the ivf appointments - I found it great to be doing something!

My first appointments were just discussing tests - blood tests and amh fsh levels and then planning tests to make sure my tubes were open.....

Def write everything down as we were a bit stunned and overloaded with information after our first appointment.

Good Luck!

Oh and trying to find our whether I am actually ovulating! Which was fun! 😅

This will def be something they need to do for me! Suspect I haven’t ovulated once since coming off contraception in May 2016!! 🙄🙈

I did one month cycle tracking in the early days - it was good as they scan you every few days. Not sure if you ever had this before. But I found it reassuring. X

No I’ve never had this before, I’ve never even heard of it! To be honest I’ve never had any sort of ovulation tests done by the hospital before which I always found bizarre, I just suspect I’m not ovulating due to testing myself and never once having a positive result! Thank you for telling me about this way of testing, I never would have known! Xx

Well when I started testing before I went to fertility I got positive tests everyday! Which meant my hormones were a bit mental. Then started taking supplements and they settled down.

Cycle tracking just watched my ovaries and follicles develop which just reassured me.

But still no positive pregnancy yet! 😥

Yes I can definitely see the benefits of tracking, it sounds really good.

I’m sending you all the positive uplifting thoughts and wishes your way - fingers crossed for a positive result for you - keep me updated on your progress! 🙏🏼🍀 xxx

Thank you so much for your answer! Yes I agree! The waiting has absolutely been the hardest bit throughout this whole process, and I have plenty more to come!

I did think it would just be tests at this point, which is fine, it’s all progress at the end of the day isn’t it!?

Yes, I always leave appointments feeling very overwhelmed! I might even just record the whole thing and make life easier 😂😂

Thank you so much! Xx

Yes we both just went a bit mute! And then had so many questions when we went home! Luckily our consultant was kind and rang us back when we had questions after appointments.

I had IVF at the Hewitt Centre in Liverpool Women's October/November last year and couldn't fault them. Thought the staff were lovely and looked after me well. Found them quite laid back and not too rushed which was good because I was a bit shocked to be going through IVF so someone had to be relaxed about it!! good luck, feel free to pm me if you want to ask me anything xx
