Epidural, did it work for you? To what extent? Yay or nay?

So is it true epidural just helps numb the lower body pain and does not in fact help with baby crowing pain, you actually feel it all?

Everyone is different but I'm wanting to give a vaginal birth a go after our Consultant said it's fine as we are 100% good in all aspects but with C-Section as Plan B should we need to.

Answers and experiences from any Twin mamas would also help as still unsure how to go ahead.

Thank you All! πŸ¦„βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨

Hi hun just giving you my experience. I planned to do natural birth with just pain meds and gas and air if need be I was in real slow labor for days and was admitted for high blood pressure I got to 6cm and my blood pressure rocketed the doctors said to get the epidural for my bp to help calm it down I got it and 5 mins after having it couldn't feel anything was actually going to sleep then next thing I knew I was surrounded by 8 doctors and nurses and there was a problem with my daughters heart rate they started taking blood from her head and something wasnt right I ended up getting an emergency c section they topped me up more and you don't feel pain just them rumbling about. I was uncontrollably shaking though real bad. I obvs can't tell you about crowning but I can't imagine it would feel anything like it would feel if you did it without. Good luck hun with what you decide. How long left have you got?? Sorry πŸ’— not a twin mama 😘

Hi ya fatooli, I'm so glad that you are doing so well and have come this far in your twin pregnancy. I had no choice but to have a c section with my twins as they shared placenta and was so so nervous about the epidural. I must admit that was the worst part about the c section for me and then the long healing process. But iv never had a natural birth so I can't compare. All I know is as long as they arrive safely that's all that matters. If I could have had a natural birth I would go for that route as you will be able to handle your babies near enough straight away as long as. I complications. I felt like I had to rely too much on family for help as I was physically unable and in so much pain. This also affected the bonding process which is already challenging with 2 babies. I fell helpless and not worthy. I wish I had more bonding time with both at that very special and important time. I can assure you that no matter what you will be more in love than you have ever been in your whole life. It's such a beautiful beautiful experience. Double the love ❀️ xxx

Hi Lottypepper!

So nice to hear from you!

And thank you for sharing your experience and story, really does help and I'll be sure to take into account t everything mentioned. That is a worry, to have to rely on family so much and my partner after all he's done, he wants to get involved and is always helping and going that extra 10miles to make things perfect for us. I don't want him stressing more than he has to.

Thank you, sending a huge hug πŸ€— πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦β€οΈπŸ˜˜πŸ¦„βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨

Hello!

Still very helpful and love hearing and is good to hear of all experiences. This helps believe me so will take note πŸ“. We are 35 weeks 4 days , due to be induced the 28th October so have everything crossed we make it till then (i think we might but then there are moments of madness feeling these munchkins move so drastically that I don't honestly think I'll make the 28th) thanks again πŸ˜˜β€οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨βœ¨

So mine wasn't twin but will share experience anyway. After waters breaking with meconium in them I had forced induction to get labour moving - birth plan out the window!!! I've got a bad back/hips and during pregnancy on a night I had really bad pains in my hip to the point where I couldn't sleep. After 12 hrs of contractions that hip pain started up again worse than ever, unbearable and nothing I did re changing position/sitting in ball - the stuff I did during pregnancy - would help it. So I asked for epidural. They told me if it was hip pain not labour pain epidural might not help but I went for it anyway and it really did help. Until about 12 hrs when the needle came out and it wore off! By that point they were trying to get me to push but it wasn't happening (turns out my pelvis is wrong shape for giving birth!) so they took me in for surgery and forceps delivery. They gave me spinal block rather than epidural and I'm not overly sure what the difference is, but I didn't feel a thing even with a massive tear. And looking at the forceps I can guarantee that if it wasn't working properly it would have been excruciatingly painful. So guess what I'm saying is that yes, epidural (or spinal block if something stronger needed) does take away all the pain! Good luck with your delivery! x
