Sore Breasts

Hello, just a question really - my number 1 symptom throughout the whole of my pregnancy has been tender breasts right from the very beginning up until now (26wks) I’ve had to change my bras twice, have more veins than I can even believe & they just feel tender some days not so much some obviously so. My nipples are sore this week, the texture of my breasts feels a bit bumpy though I think always have but now more so - I have a drs app next week but is this normal ? Anyone else had the same to this point ?

Thanks

Kate x

Some women are more aware of breast discomfort than others This is because of hormonal changes due to pregnancy Have you discussed your concerns with your midwife - it might be worthwhile to have a chat with her as well

Take care

Thanks Janet - I did mention to my midwife at my 25wk app but she didn't really have much to say other than speak with your GP. So i have been to the Dr's this morning & she said everything feels fine, and obviously there's alot going on at the moment & more changes to come so to just be aware of what's normal for me x

I am only 1w since my bfp and I only had sore breasts so far, if you do not count in slight cramps. It is quite uncomfortable and I have been using comfortable undergarments to get me through the days. I think it will be good to discuss with dr at next appt.

Sore breasts have always been an issue for me, pre period & then when i was on stims & post transfer when i had a positive test. I have gone up at least 2 cups sizes, although they don't look as big now because my bump is getting bigger haha ! Dr said all okay this morning & obviously our bodies change so much in pregnancy don't they ? i think i will switch to non underwired bras too... wishing you lots of luck on your journey x congratulations on your BFP x

Oh I already switched to non underwired bras. Indeed when I was on hormone meds- stimms and embryo transfer I always had sore breast.

Mine were like this in both my successful pregnancies. I went to a bra fitter towards the end of pregnancy and I'd gone up 2 cup sizes, then went up about another 2 when my milk came in. No-one else seemed to have as much trouble or pain as me so things to maybe watch out for if it's similar to me: leaking milk/colostrum (first time it started around 24 weeks which was a bit of a shock but didn't happen at all second time), engorgement when milk comes in (can be extremely uncomfortable - might want to be ready with cold and hot compresses, and a much larger bra (some women don't wear one at all at this stage but if you're on the larger size and/or you leak, it's a bit of an issue - Elomi do amazing normal and nursing bras including for bigger cup sizes and even though they're underwired they go around the tissue and sit on your ribs, not the boob or armpit)), nipple shields and pump inserts that actually fit (if your nipples/boobs are already sore and you want to breastfeed or pump, it's very important to find the right sizes or it gets very painful very quickly), and if you're prone to inflammation watch out for mastitis as it can come from nowhere and make you very unwell - any signs get on to your midwives or GP asap as the earlier it's caught and treated the better. Hopefully none of this will apply but having learnt the hard way it pays to be prepared just in case.

Thank you so much for that useful info ! I am a bit concerned that because i am prone to sensitive breasts, breast feeding will be difficult - Will do as much research as i can pre to try and alleviate x My breasts weren't big, and i guess they aren't big now really but much bigger for me ! All of these changes are so very welcome to be in the situation i am in but wow its alot 😆 x

You're welcome. Breastfeeding was near impossible for me first time around no matter what I did but much easier second and not entirely sure why apart from just different babies! Remember a fed baby is a happy baby and don't feel pressured down any route or like you're failing - it can be bloody hard feeding a newborn whichever way you do it and sometimes breastfeeding just doesn't work. As long as the baby and you are happy and healthy that's all that matters.

Thank you so much, My mum keeps saying to me 'don't give in' when i know its not a case of giving in, some women simply can't for various reasons x I'll give it a good go 🤞 It is hard though aswel when other people put their expectation on you, before baby has even arrived ! 😆

Just modify it to don't give in to other people's expectations (even your Mum's 😀).
