I'm a bit confused

I have recently been diagnosed with fatty liver. I also have acid reflux, my GP has told me that once I sort out my liver the reflux will go. He said it could take up to a year. Anyone heard this?

Hi Vallie

Reflux can be a part of a number of gastro issues. I don't recall that being related to fatty liver in particular though perhaps someone here has better information on that connection.

He seems adamant, but has told me to change my diet completely, which I have started!!

Well, getting your diet in a proper balance is the key so whether it will fix your reflux is secondary to the broader health message of managing the entire system with a supportive diet.

Hi, the only thing I can suggest is that once you change your diet that might help with reflux. What I noticed is with a lot of abdominal fat, with me is that fat pushes the acids up into the esophagus. It messes with the sphincter that is suppose to stop the back up but after lengthy reflux issues it gets weakened. I have noticed with diet change and weight loss I haven't had as many problems. Good luck.

I was just over 10 stone with a big belly! I've been on no sugar, low carb since November and have lost a stone, I'm only just over 5 foot. I'm having five small meals a day, some days the acid is really good. I've been on omeprazle for a month or so, so fingers crossed, baby steps. Oh And I know omeprazole is bad for your liver, so I plan to get off it asap. I do have a hiatus hernia diagnosed years ago which could be adding to it. Guess it will be the dreaded endoscopy again😱😱

Wow! I'm from US but 10 stone is a lot if i looked it up correctly. Congrats on that, I would think that is a good start to reducing belly fat. Are you also having liver issues? If not good thing to get it under control before any damage is done. Wish I had known how serious fatty liver could be before it got to that point, when I could have turned it around. Doctors didn't seem to concerned since my numbers weren't exceptionally bad. Good luck on the endoscopy much better than the other!!!

Just reread, you weighed just over 10 stone!! Got it now, sorry thought you lost that much. Well I am 5'6" weighed 225 pounds down to 199 pounds. Pretty happy about that, been working hard at it.
