NASH TO SIBO TO EARLY STAGE CIRROHSIS: Contradictory dietary plans?

NASH and SIBO to Early Stage Cirrohsis; Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO) transports excess destructive bacteria to the liver. I am in Seattle and totally unable to find a gastro or hepatology or primary who understands the relationship of these diseases. To complicate this more, several years ago I had a Jejunal-Ileal bypass for morbid obesity. An ancient experiment for bariatric surgery. Tie off all but 9 inches of the small intestine. Many people died from liver disease. I had the intestine reconnected 17 years later due to pernicious anemia, Mersa, etc. I may have to return to MAYO or Cedars Sinai for physicians. But multiple diseases are not a specialty of physicians and even less for dieticians. Thanks for all the info on the site. I am doing my best to treat myself temporarily. Now I am loosing weight too fast - the ironies of life! All best to us all.

Well Tristan, you have had quite a journey. I'm sure you are aware that there is limited data on SBIO and inconsistent opinion about how to manage it. There is a lot of overlap conceptually with irritable bowel syndrome and increased permeability of the bowel can be a consequence which does, as you say, stress the liver. I imagine you know that typical treatment is low absorption antibiotic like xifaxan but with your surgical history the geometries may be difficult so finding someone who is a specialist in those kinds of gut issues is critical and may be difficult to find. I wish there was more we could tell you but it is not a well studied issue.

I do not like it that you are losing weight so fast and not trying. That is probably meaning the liver is not in good shape at all. I hope you find a Dr. soon. Look into a transplant because I would say the liver dictates you who body and all your organs, so give it the help it needs and then work on the rest. I'm not a Dr. I just know my body and if the liver is not happy, nothing is happy. Good luck with everything. Pam
