I’m wondering how soon the Liver reacts to food intake. I can consume an ounce of water, five kernels of popcorn, or five strawberries and instantly feel pain in my right flank and back.
I admit my diet hasn’t been 100% liver friendly but this occurred even the day I got an MRE saying liver is good. I also know that the liver can rapidly suffer damage.

Well Lei, I imagine some people will say you need to see a psychologist. It surprises me how many liver patients have been told that. They will tell you that the liver has no nerves and can't feel pain. That is true but it is covered in a tough capsule that has lots of nerves. A sick liver can put pressure on that capsule and some people are in constant pain. In your case, the probable answer is that you are right on the edge of that. When you eat something it sets off a series of chemical signals as the bowel gets ready to deal with food. For you, that apparently pushes your liver past its pain point. A normal liver gets bigger as we digest food then shrinks again as the meal is processed. This is just my opinion and not a medical explanation which only your doctor can give you. There are a lot of nerves in the area so it could be something else.
Hello, and sorry to hear you suffer as I do. To start off corn protein is extremely hard to digest as it doesn't break down on the first trip through the liver, it's a block chain amino acid. I quit eating everything corn about 2 years ago. Then you have strawberries, with have high levels of fructose, I had to stop eating them. I can tolerate maybe 2 small organic strawberries. A long story short, I have suffered with this condition for about 4 years. Trial and error works, I wrote down everything I ate for a year, but go to YouTube and search and search. I had a fibrosis today and it showed no fibrosis. The ultrasound hurt a lot and they kept saying it doesn't hurt. It's still sore 7 hrs later. The only thing wrong with my liver is the it has small cysts and apparently "they don't hurt". I had to become a vegan that just eats greens and beans, grains, seeds, nuts and mushrooms. Some vegetables are high in fructose so be careful with them( sweet potatoes, beets, etc.) I know beets are supposed to be good for the liver. I have switched to all organic foods and it seems to be helping. I'm going to try pasture raised chicken eggs. You have to make sure they weren't feed any chicken feed because it will contain corn. I can only tolerate very small portions of meat, so I'm hopeful I can find some too eat that doesn't hurt. Thank goodness for plant-based burgers. I hope this helps, and I feel your pain.
Unclemud, thanks so much for sharing and the explanation. It sounds like our liver reacts to certain foods the same. I really do think that Corn is a major culprit and unfortunately I’m addicted to popcorn. I would also consume a half of sweet potato about once a week. However, I know I must and I will modify my diet even more.
Corn and grains and many other fruits and vegetables are loaded with glyphosate which causes fatty liver. Unless you’re buying all non-gmo verified your liver could be reacting to the chemicals sprayed on the food. Even on “organically grown” they can spray glyphosate as a desiccant (drying agent) to dry it quickly. My husband was diagnosed with NAFLD, NASH and cirrhosis. His glyphosate score was 9.6. The average person has a score of 2.5. A simple search on “glyphosate causes fatty liver” will pull up a lot of articles on this. Wishing you well.
