I have fatty liver and PBC? Is it safe to drink water with artificial sweetener. I like the little packets to put in bottled water. Thank you.

Hi Elle

I don't think that safe is the right question. When your liver is sick all choices should be does what I am eating make it harder or easier for the organ? Decisions about things like sweeteners are part of the larger question of are you managing all of your intake. Like most things it is a question of dose. Those are small amounts of chemical but they do have to be processed and detoxified by the liver. We can't really answer the question except to consider it relative to the rest of your diet. Clearly, the best thing for us is plain water.

Stevia is the best possibility for a sweetener. Just read a article on it avoid others they are counter productive.
