Dr said fatty liver newly diagnosed

Hello,

I am new here. I have been having pain on my right side slightly under my breast area for over a year. Did the ultrasound last week, as the pain is getting more frequent. The US test results came in and indicated: “liver pattern favoring steatosis”. Which the PCP said was a fatty liver. Dr did not say what stage it is or anything else related to this diagnosis. I don’t drink alcohol hardly ever, also, I don’t drink coffee.

I had a endoscopy about a year ago and there was no mention of any organ issues.

I have not been feeling myself for some time, I also have hypertension, hypothyroidism, and GERD with a chronic cough.

Lately, the GERD symptoms have gotten worse and medications like Nexium, Pepcid, etc are not helping too much. I am not sure if this is related to the liver issue or not.

So I realize I need to get serious about diet and excercise now.

I am a 65 yr old person. Been healthy and and no weight issues until I was into menopause for a few years. Then weight gain and the other issues came about.

What is the next step I should take? I want to find a good doctor in my area, but I have been not able to find a good caring gastro dr or a hepatologist. Is there any resources on this site for a doctor?

How long does it take to get the fatty liver back to normal, when you have changed your lifestyle and diet?

I look forward to scrolling through this site to learn more about this liver issue and would like any constructive feedback or insight others can offer with their experiences

Thanks

Hi

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with fatty liver after an ultrasound but was told not much far!! Referred to gastro but wait was 20 plus weeks, we ended up going private for a diagnosis which was totally against the grain. Anyway , I had tests which diagnosed nafld and very fatty , enlarged liver causing the capsule around it to stretch causing the pain. This was caused by meds from my Drs over the years. Spleen also enlarged. Consultant then took me on under NHS cos he said I'd spent enough!! Had biopsy which then showed Nash. You have too be pushy to get anywhere. If gastro Drs fob you off you could go to pals to complain. I have other conditions so find it hard to exercise. I try and have a walk each day . We cook nearly everything from scratch or should u say our sin dies, cis he kindly cooks for us most nights. Thinking of you. Take care of yourself Lynne

Thank you for the post! Would be glad to give you some insights..... it’s not the alcohol or smoking although those items do not help- generally it’s lifestyle and diet related. How? When and what to do?..... It’s too much to write here. Immediately stop processed foods... do not eat anything that takes more than 4 steps to prepare- stay away from commercialized foods. Thus, generally anything that is altered from its originally form- my goal is to increase your lifespan-

I’m a cell health coach- I work with individuals and groups to regenerate and accelerate the natural healing process-

Pls follow my posts and reverse the aging process of your liver..

Your welcome to list/itemize what you eat etc.. and I will respond...

Update I finally saw the Hepatologist and she is doing a battery of blood work testing on me and suggested that she wants a MRI done on the liver and a liver biopsy. My health insurance has a large deductible. Since MRI’s are rather costly, is it prudent to skip the MRI? Or just do both of them to get a better idea of where my liver is on a NASH Scale? Since being first diagnosed, I have lost 10 lbs and doing a Mediterranean type diet. I have been experiencing a increased problem with my reflux and bad heartburn issues. The heartburn/nausea and lower cramping pain espisodes that last for 24-48 hours and nothing seems to relieve the problem. I just wait it out, which is not fun. I am trying to figure out the “trigger”, but have not found the cause yet. I take Nexium once a day. Tums helps a bit, but not for long and the pain just comes back. Any suggestions? Thanks for listening!
