Newly diagnosed with NAFLD

Hi

I was diagnosed with NAFLD this week. I am familiar with low carb and low sugar diets, but I am looking for suggestions on healthy snacks as feeling quite hungry a lot of the time. I also read that it is best to lose weight gradually. Previous to my diagnosis, I was trying the Keto diet which the specialist was very opposed to. Can I still eat small portions of sweet potato with vegetable and protein in a meal. Feeling a bit overwhelmed!!! Thanks for ready and any suggestions you may have!!

Hello there.

I have NAFLD. At the start of the year, I had severe R sided pain radiating to my shoulder. I knew my NAFLD was getting worse. In June I had ultrasound. Ultrasound determined inflammation and concluded my fatty liver was advancing. Hepatologist told me that I needed to lose weight- I told him that I tried everything to lose weight, exercise 3 times a week (on a low fat restricted caloric diet).

He said to stop all that!

He recommended keto and intermittent fasting. That was in June this year when I started. Within 2 weeks, the inflammation and radiating pain was gone. I’m 8 weeks in my new eating diet and I have lost 6 kilos . I get occasional discomfort in my liver but I know a low carb, low protein and good healthy fats works!!! It’s the sugar that kills your liver!!!!! Eat lots of vegetables and salads.

Good luck.

Kathy

I am doing the same with Intermittent Fasting. Here is my diet plan and exercise regime below to help others:

Daily example:

6am: Gym (upper body weights 30 mins + 4/5k run on treadmill 25 min)

7am: Pint of water with half a squeezed lemon / tablespoon and a half of Apple cider vinegar + 1 black coffee

Intermittent Fast until 12 pm (would not eat anything from 8pm the night before)

12pm: For lunch I would do chicken breast with a greek salad and 50g of brown rice OR sweet potato

12:30: Espresso

2pm: An apple and some more chicken (100 g)

4pm: Some blueberries and walnuts + 1 black coffee

6pm: Half an avocado spread on two pieces of rye bread with two slices of salmon and a beetroot and a poached egg

7pm: Low fat greek yoghurt, squeeze of hunny and some more walnuts and blueberries

8pm: Fast until 12pm next day..... Repeat

For gym I do that routine 4 times a week. The morning run expends circa 400/500 calories
