Hi Evan

Vitamin E has been shown to reduce NASH, not a huge effect and probably due to is antioxidant qualities so it is typically recommended by doctors but it is the diet and exercise that will really help you. Just taking vitamin e won't fix your problem.

The following lengthy report on Vitamin E is complex but worth scrolling down to the testing and results on NASH and NAFLD , it appears caution should be taken and not sure of the long term affects, but very interesting research and testing:

The links are useful but before embarking on high does of Vitamin E please read at the very least the Conclusion and safety concerns:

3.4. Vitamin E: Safety Concerns

Long-term safety should be carefully discussed with NASH patients before starting therapy with vitamin E

The following was reported in PubMed, if you are a diabetic please read too:

The Role of Vitamin E in the Treatment of NAFLD. 2018:

I can see now after reading why your Dr suggested you take Vitamin E at a dose of 800 (IU/day) is the Dr going to prescribe and monitor your progress whilst embarking on such a high dose of this vitamin?

As Nash2 has said diet and exercise is key to improving people's liver health and wellbeing.

Vitamin E is found in the following foods:

Vegetable oils (such as wheat germ, sunflower, safflower, corn, and soybean oils)

Nuts (such as almonds, peanuts, and hazelnuts/filberts)

Seeds (such as sunflower seeds)

Green leafy vegetables (such as spinach and broccoli)

Fortified breakfast cereals, fruit juices, margarine, and spreads.

Fortified means that vitamins have been added to the food. Check the Nutrition Fact Panel on the food label.

Good luck with your quest.
