I have NASH and I do not drink, actually never have except for special occasion. Reading some info saying it's ok to have a glass of red wine because it's good for liver. I truly do not know what to believe as so much info out there and I know alcohol is poison to an already not healthy liver. Everyone has been so helpful on this site so figured I would ask you guys if it's ok to have a glass at all.

Hello,

Really glad you brought up this Important question. I have one for you. Does the liver have to process-filter alcohol? The answer is yes. Of course it does.

I remember talking with my liver doctor at the U and he is without a doubt one of the top hepatologist in the region and he told me to not drink alcoholic beverages under any circumstances.

I have NASH Cirrhosis and the fact is my liver is damaged. My goal is to minimize any further damage to my liver. Period. Everything we eat, drink, consume, has to go through our liver.

With that understanding people with liver disease MUST not exacerbate the problem by consuming alcohol. A little red wine may be good for the liver, as you stated, but that would be for someone with a healthy liver. I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Harrison

Hi Miavom! Truly wine has many health benefits, but drinking too much of it can still put your liver at risk. If someone consumed 2–3 pg of wine each day , then there is no risk.
