My husband's GGT levels raised to just short of 500 he has seen several specialists and none could provide an answer snd no damagehss been seen on scans and MRI.

After reading extensively I decided to change out diet and remove refined carbohydrates, pasta, cakes, bread, crackers, pastries anything whatsoever made with flour, removed rice, all potato products any flour based sauces etc.

Introduced occasionally buckwheat and quinoa as alternatives to rice and Introduced more seeds and nuts, lots of vegetables, salads, good protein, mainly fish, chicken and occasionally beef. Oats for breakfast or yogurt or fruit or a combination of all.

My husband's GGT lowered to 125 and 102, still not within the normal reference values of 6-35 where we are in the UK, but a huge improvement, he still has beer over a weekend but never in access, and never has, and completely removing alcohol initially made no difference to any of his test results. The only other thing he has daily is milk kefir which I produce at home, he has both the whey and the cream produced from this.

We both lost 2 stone in weight with no effort. We occasionally have the odd potatoes and flour based product but usually when out or at other peoples houses and there are not choices to be had but in the main we keep to this way of eating.

I have a condition called Behcet's and they gave me colchicine which helps many sufferers with oral and genital ulcers but for me after 10 weeks I had a toxic reaction and my GGT levels raised to 166, I had a toxic reaction to the drug, I was taken off the drug and within a couple months my GGT levels were back to normal range. Take a look at what medications and supplements you are taking to make sure these are not affecting your GGT levels.

Maybe if you look at changing your diet for a few months and get retested you might find a reduction in your GGT levels.

Good luck and I hope you can get your GGT levels back on track.

You have a lot going on it sounds like. Diagnosis is not something we can do here but as you probably know your liver plays an important role in your immune system so it can contribute to infectious challenges. Since your doctor gave you a diagnosis of nonalcoholic fatty liver you might benefit by having that looked at more closely. Some docs minimize those issues and they can have a pretty wide range of effects.
