What kind of fool would start a nonprofit foundation?

Several people have asked me why I go to all the trouble of creating a foundation so I thought I would comment. I am old enough not to be trying to get rich. When I learned I had cirrhosis and found out that there is no treatment I decided to get one. The giant problem that will stop drug development is not enough patients for the clinical trials that must be run. My screening project is designed to discover a large number of currently undiagnosed liver disease patients that can be candidates for trials. My selfish reason for this project is to get treatments to save my life. I am stable for now but we all know the prognosis. I am pushing the industry to move faster. I welcome help from anyone would prefer therapy to dying.

You are slowly bringing attention to this disease and helping so many with the potential of saving lives. That is no fool! Question- to get into a research project, does your doctor have to refer you?

It depends on where you are. You can ask a center doing a study what their policy is. Here is a link that might help you find a study that might interest you fattyliverfoundation.org/cl...

I was thinking about a better way to answer this question. I just decided not to die of cirrhosis. There are a lot of drugs in research but they cannot succeed because they don't have enough patients to do the clinical trials. My screening project is designed to find a large number of people who are not sick yet and teach them about clinical trials. It is a very selfish plan. My life matters to me. I'm OK if you come along, just hop on the I CHOOSE NOT TO DIE THAT WAY TRAIN. Here is a link that might help you fattyliverfoundation.org/uc...
