People with epilepsy will be offered a Covid booster vaccine this spring.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) recommended a spring 2024 booster programme for those at risk. The JCVI is a government organisation that advises UK health departments on immunisation.

It said the vaccine should be offered about six months after the person’s last dose.

People with epilepsy are eligible for a vaccine this spring because they fall within the clinical risk group. Epilepsy falls under the ‘clinical risk’ category of ‘chronic neurological disease’.

According to Nursing Times, a vaccination programme is expected to begin in the coming months. nursingtimes.net/news/coron...

Following the announcement of the booster programme, health minister Maria Caulfield said: “We have accepted the official advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation to offer a Covid spring vaccine to those most at risk of serious illness. epilepsy.org.uk/covid-inqui...

“It is important the most vulnerable groups are offered a vaccine through the NHS programme to strengthen their immunity to protect themselves and reduce pressure on the NHS.”
