Mirena coil replacement

Hi I have the Mirena coil (my first) as well as the progesterone only pill for endometriosis management . I understand that the Mirena is licenced for 5 years for heavy menstrual bleeding. I will be coming up to five years in January and wondered if anyone has any tips or advice on having the Mirena removed and a new one fitted?

I found the fitting very painful and experienced intermittent bleeding and pelvic pain for a few months afterwards.

Are these symptoms as bad with subsequent mirena fittings? I have a tilted uterus.

I took have a very tilted uterus, the coil doesn't hurt at all coming out but I like you struggle having it put in to the point if almost passing out. If you Google it you can insist on having it put in under sedation. They say it's best for five years and most effective as told by the consultant gynae. Good luck. X

Hi,

Had alot of pain on removal but it had migrated so think alot harder and unfortunately alot of repositioning speculum etc. In the end after one unsucessful attempt by the consultant it was suggested to use diazepam from my GP and I had gas and air and it came out pain free. But complex story in that actually had it removed while having colposcopy and I had called the week before to say I was worried. Who will be removing the coil ? Maybe call ahead let them know your concern to see their suggestions or just wait and see and take pain relief prior.

❤️ Sabrina x
