So I’m on the countdown to my total hysterectomy on 5th October. Had the pre op tests and book of a tick box questionnaire. Feeling a bit weird, I know all the pain and bleeding and hospital visits will be over at last, and I know I need this surgery because without it I just won’t have a normal life, but can’t help feeling really nervous and anxious. I’ve been going to the gynae clinic for about 20 years now and joke that my consultant can’t retire until I’m sorted, ( he retires soon lol!) It has just sort of hit me how major an operation this is and how long the recovery will be and it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. I know I’m in good hands and my husband is a medic first aider so when I get home there’s no worries. It’s just so massive and will be so long and I don’t do sitting still! Any advice?

surgery ready
Hi!! First of all, a massive good luck for your op - I hope it goes amazingly!!!
I had a total hysterectomy almost 2 years ago now - I'm like you and don't enjoy sitting still, but please make sure you take it easy as recovery is so important! Are you having abdominal or lap surgery?
Allow yourself to be waited on hand and foot for the first few weeks - enjoy someone else doing the cooking and cleaning for a while! Nice, short gentle walks really helped me during recovery, around the house for the first few days and the outside round the block as the fresh air really helped!
Hi
Thank you for replying. I guess it’s the enormity that all I’ve gone through the last 20 years will be over that needs to properly be processed and dealt with. I know from previous surgery I can hardly move the first week and barely shuffle the second so I’m expecting that anyway. I’ve got lots of books and crafts ready to occupy me when I feel able. Fingers crossed all will be ok.
