Hi there,I've been waiting for laparoscopic surgery and a cystectomy for some time to treat what has been classified as severe endo. I got a call to say they are booking me in and now I am really panicked.
I have never had any kind of surgery before and, because of where the endo is, I'll also need a bowel surgeon present with the risk of a stoma. I feel really worried and so panicked that I want to cancel the surgery altogether. I'm quite overweight and have a genuine fear of either not making it out of the surgery or coming out of it with life changing side effects.
Any experiences any of you could share would be most welcome. Thank you so much xx

I had surgery last year and had the same fear as i was also overweight. My bmi at the time of surgery was 36.
I spoke to the anaesthetist the day of my surgery and told them my fears and they made me feel so much better. I cried alot speaking to them so dont feel silly if you get upset also. Its normal. Surgery is a scary thing.
My surgery went well and they did most of what they needed to do.
I had the same surgery booked and I bottled it for the reasons you outlined and every month I regret it because of the pain and swelling.
Talk to the medical people on the day, they will make you feel better. One told me it’s the most monitored sleep you’ll ever have in your life and to remember you sleep every night.
Also, they said if they needed to do anything life changing they would wake me up and book in another operation another day. Perhaps ask them that?
Try not to worry, you don’t want to miss the opportunity- like me! You’ll be fine.
I'm sorry you are having to go through this, hope you are ok!!
I was booked in for a cystectomy and they ended up removing my ovary as the cyst got too large. So what I would say is the longer you leave it the more problems it may produce. Before my surgery my cyst had gotten that large I was unable to function on a daily basis.
I did unfortunately end up with a stoma as there was no bowel surgeon present at my op and they nicked my bowel without realising. However it sounds to me like they are taking all the precautions to make sure that does not happen to you. If it does in most cases it can be reversed after 6 months.
I hope this helps. Wishing you all the luck in the world!!
