Hello sorry to hear your struggling. Have you been referred to a gynaecologist with a specialist interest in endo. Or are your GPs the ones saying they don't believe you. If so Google the NHS NICE guidelines on the diagnosising and treatment of endo and talk to your Dr specifically about following these guidelines. If they won't, ask the receptionist is any of the Dr's have any extra training in gynaecology (this worked for me straight away she said yep sounds like endo I'll get the ball rolling on referring you) if not make a complaint to the practice manager, quoting these guidelines.
When you are referred check that the gynaecologists has at a minimum a specialist interest in endometriosis per the guidelines. Unfortunately this isn't always the case so best to check and get it changed if needed.
Also so you're aware a hysterectomy isn't a cure for endo.
... Unfortunately it's all too common and is my story too.
My GP, who has a special interest in gynaecology, said I couldn't possibly have endo because I would definitely have heavy periods and only pain during those times. Kept trying to give me mountains of pills to hide my symptoms. She was so very wrong and I told her she needed further training. I was quite irate at this point because, like you, it's been years of pain & struggling to raise 3 kiddies. I refused to leave until she referred me to gynaecology.
I am currently on the huge waiting list for a diagnostic laparoscopy but I haven't a clue what kind of experience the surgeon will have or if they'll have a clue about where & how to look for endo.
I plan to ask them to check specific areas where endo can grow - womb & tubes obviously, vaginorectal septum, bowel, bladder, kidneys, diaphragm.
If they do find endo, I want to be referred to a specialist (as is the correct procedure) for treatment.
I'm 35, I don't want to have a hysterectomy with ovary removal because the thought of going through menopause & all the side effects is just too much. If they just remove the womb then the ovaries are still there, pumping out oestrogen, feeding the endo - so major surgery for no benefit.
I'm going to be fitted with the mirena coil at my lap appointment, so I'm choosing to be hopeful that it'll surpress further endo growth.
You need to be referred, properly investigated & diagnosed. Please keep us posted xx
