I have been on Decapeptyl for endometriosis since the 7 September - second injection last week. I have never stopped bleeding/spotting. Is this a normal side effect? Does it mean that this treatment is not for me? Thanks for Sharing your experience!

Ok so the first injection should he done from day 1 to day 5 so that was OK. The way the injections work is to shut down the ovaries as I expect you know by shutting down the production of gonadotrophins by the pituitary gland, the most important of which in this context is follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which would normally instruct your ovaries to make follicles which in turn release increasing levels of oestrogen in the first half of the cycle to ovulation. But for around 3 weeks or so after the first injection there is a 'flare effect' when the pituitary gland is overstimulated before shutting down so there is an overproduction of oestrogen. Guidelines do say to have HRT from the time of the injection but science would suggest that this will just add to the estrogen flare effect until the ovaries shut down. This will build the endometrium and many women have a really bad period after the 3 weeks or so as it is all released as blood once the oestrogen drops. If you have been having more of a continuous lighter bleeding it may be that this is the way your endometrium is clearing itself out.
Please don't take this as definitive medical advice as you aren't meant to bleed once things have settled but it may be that they are still settling and I think I'd give it another week or so and if it hasn't stopped I'd contact the consultant. x
I feel we are all different.I bled till the week coming up to my third injection and some ladies shutting down shortly before the second injection. It depends on what day of your cycle you took took the injection and how your body reacts to medication.
Iv heard someone on here take 2x oral morphine plus Paracetamol and diclofenac in A&E and still be in pain while I take 1xoral morphine and in half an hour am on cloud 9 and pain free for the next 6+hours.
