Gastroparesis treatment (drugs or natural?)

Been suffering with stomach problems for months, posted a little while ago when it all began, thanks so much for the input and support people gave. It turns out it is all related to my hEDS and I have Gastroparesis. Without the words of wisdom of people on here I would have just let the hEDS go unmentioned after my GP originally discounted it.

I really don’t want to take the medication they are suggesting (Domperidone) as it’s been banned in America and seems very big pharma and not good, but wondering how to start holistically? Going to give it a month to see if acupuncture, probiotics and enzymes will work, has anyone got any experiance of the holistic side or taken the Domperidone drug? I’ve lost 6 stone since December so want to get better ASAP, but have had so many health problems caused by other medications in the past and am on so much stuff already don’t want to add something else without trying another way first.

Ta :)

Hi - my daughter now 26 has tried everything natural + alternative meds for her gastroparesis (hEDS diagnosed last year) - her drip in weight was getting critical and she is now on Domperidone which has helped her keep food/protein drinks down. She has continued taking probiotics and digestive enzymes. I really feel for you and am shocked to discover how many suffers out there. Her intestines are paralysed on and off - creating severe bloating and pain. Prof Aziz (gastro/neuro specialist in London) prescribed prucalupride which alongside Dulcolax, Glycerol suppositories and hours of massaging her stomach helps her go to the toilet. Hope this is of some help. Sending healing, positive thoughts :) xx

Thanks so much for responding, can I ask, did she get any side effects from the domperidone? I’ve just really freaked out looking at the list, have tried eating a small meal without it and feeling ill again but nervous about starting a new drug with such a long list of possible side effects.

Really glad that she has found treatment that works, the weight loss with this is scary, I lost a stone in a week, was crazy

Glad if the reply was of some help. She has had no side-effects at all, definitely helped her a lot although still suffering from severe bloating and pain. Was also diagnosed with mesenteric artery syndrome/ nutcraker syndrome making it difficult for food to pass. Massage also helps - eapecially along the spine where it seems that certain acupressure/ trigger points helps activate digestion. Good luck - crossing fingers for you :) x

I think I have Gastroparesis too. After I eat I feel extremely uncomfortable for about 4 hours. It feels like my stomach can’t digest the food. I live in the US and I have only heard of Reglin for this and it counteracts badly with one of my other medications. I feel badly for your daughter. I hope you can find a solution.

Hi, I know I’m a bit late to this post but I had domperidone and in one month I had begun lactating ALOT of milk ( never ever had children and defo not pregnancy related) I also ballooned in weight from 65kg to 68.5kg in just one month with the only adaptations were introducing domperidone and Gabapentin.
