It appears that the drug (ozempic, wegovy....depending on application but same basic one) is advertised for up to 4 applications!! In brief as i understand it, that includes type 2 diabetes, weight loss, heart disease and kidney disease - all of which may be linked.

Either way, as for any drug, a risk-benefit assessment is warranted and personal. If you want more detail than I can supply here to help do that, I can send you a blog or you can find it via a website oc nutrihealth (Blogs top RHS of site).

im interested in any info you have that shows studies linking ozempic to improved kidney function as I have ckd.

Tbh I believe that the medical/scientific evidence is far too limited for medics to prescribe it, at present. I couldnt find a NICE guideline which reinforces my point (though users on here may know otherwise). As far as I can see, the recent excitement in various news articles seems to be limited to a single study of CKD patients with T2 diabetes (link below). Note also affiliations of the authors to the drug manufacturer, Novo Nordisk.

So, at present, the benefit of the drug for CKD seems limited to that and patients should balance that against the risks. Hopefully youve had chance to read the blog I mentioned earlier which includes some key ones? Below is a link to one specifically kidney-related.

I am assuming you are a diabetic. My husband is on both Farxiga and Ozempic. Both are for controlling his diabetes and helping with his CKD. He went from stage 3b to almost stage 2. NO SIDE EFFECTS and he has been on them for over a year. No real weight loss but it does make eat a bit less. I am on the lowest dose of Ozempic, and I did not lose weight, too low a dose. But my A1c has been between 5.3 and 5.4 for over two years.

So what do you think helped his gfr so much? The ozempic or the Farxiga. Farxiga is an SGLT2 inhibitor I believe and ive heard they are really good for ckd. I was just recently prescribed ozempic and am hesitant to take based on not wanting to add another pill to my regimen but if it helps with my kidneys I would seriously entertain the thougt.

Both... he went from an "out of controlled diabetic", with A1c of 8 and 9 to 6 and 6.2. Keeping his highs and lows steady has been the best thing for him. Both drugs help with that. His daughter, also on Ozempic, dropped her diabetes from 9 to 6.7 within six months but she is on a higher dose of 1mg. She has not lost much weight, but she is eating less.
