Protein in urine

For about a year i've been taking 1x10 mg/day Crestor(Rosuvastatin) to treat high cholesterol levels without any major side-effects.A few weeks ago after a routine urine test my protein levels in urine showed (++) so i decided to dig a little deeper and went ahead to do a 24h urine test. The test came back and to my surprise my protein levels are over 4000 mg/24h which is really high! From what i saw in the common side effects regarding the medication is that it can increase protein levels in urine, but can it go that high? I am an otherwise healthy 55 yo male rather skinny and with no history of renal disease prior to taking this medicine, in fact just before starting this treatment my urine tests showed no signs of protein at all! So i'm wondering, could this be just because of the statins or it's just a coincidence that my protein levels skyrocketed in that period of time?

Hi MisoYuzu and welcome to this caring community. Several proteins can be found in the urine, but the most relevant to kidney disease is albumen. Protein in the urine is not usually obvious but can be detected by a simple dip stick test or sometimes by more sensitive lab tests. Protein in your urine is one of the side effects of crestor. Please consult your doctor regarding this, as he/she will want to monitor this. Are any other forum members able to help MisoYuzu, please? Thank you and best wishes.
