I read a lot of comments from other patients and even some of my family members very keen on going carb free or low carb, but I am never personally able to do that and I always wonder do these people go completely carb free and how do they manage. so I would like them to explain me

I am 65 years old and Type 2 Diabetic since 15 years. Taking medicines: Glycomet 500 2 times and Tenepride 20mg once a day. I am also hypertensive since 20 years, undergone CABG 10 years back. I am excited to know about reversing Diabetes with LCHF diet and to do away with medicines in course of time.

Food as medicine is the was to control type 2. Avoiding all sugary (carb) food, Eating only at meal times, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Giving at least 14 hours between evening meal and breakfast.

There are few Tamil doctors have given video clips on how to control type 2 in Tamil.

It you Google , (Dr Sivaprakash ) , (Dr Sagul R Mugunthan ). Doctor Karthikeyan, Dr Pal video clips.

Depending up on your weight and waist you need to look at loosing both weight and waist!

You need to go for regular HbA1C, eye test and foot check. As you are on medication, you need to look at medication side effects, as well.

Hard work and it takes time.

Welcome to the group, shashidharamurthy . :-) Thank you for introducing yourself to everyone.

Have you talked with your doctor about changes to your diet? If not, please contact the doctor first before changing anything to be on the safe side of things and also so the doctor and everyone else is on the same page. What are your blood sugars during the day/before meals/snacks and bedtime?

Please search for LCHF on the top right corner of this page. You will see all the information you need on the subject.

Hi,

Low Carb Diet?

There is no definition for this!

"What counts as low-carb?

Low-carb is a flexible way of eating that allows you as an individual to choose a level of carbohydrate that works well for your diabetes and lifestyle.

Moderate carbohydrate: 130 to 225g of carbs

Low carbohydrate: under 130g of carbs

Very-low carbohydrate: under 30g of carbs

Generally speaking, the lower your carbohydrate intake, the more likely you are to lose weight and the lower sugar levels you are likely to have.

It’s important you choose a level of carbohydrate that works well for you."

Before any one starting on this diet fist needs to consult a doctor to make sure your healthy to follow this diet.

How do you measure carb in the home cooked food you are eating at home, very difficult.

To start with your need a small plate and small dish, this is to do portion control.

No rice and rice products, no potatoes, no pasta, no bread home made or shop bought!

Some root veg OK, a lot of green veg steamed is also good.

I am speaking from experience, I lost weight, lowered blood glucose and blood cholesterol and also lost few inches in the waist, new cloths, because the waist went down!

Regular exercise and life style change.

In, UK , I can check the carb for breakfast and lunch. But for dinner is not difficult to check on home cooked food for me. I eat what is available, this is because cooking two different meals for evening meal is a problem.

Meals times, Evening meal before 6:30 PM. Breakfast 0900 hours. Lunch, varies, 1300 hours or there about. There is a fasting for 14 hours between evening meal and breakfast.

Today as I age some blood numbers are going up. I have medical people in my family to check. I also read reports and communicate with a doctor or a professor. As a Sri Lankan, I need to watch out my waist therefore I look at waist to height ratio. My height has gone down as I age.

There is a book, X-PERT diabetes management. This book gives what you can eat, portion size, carb count and many more, I have this book.

I do take drinks, this is because I am used to it. The X-PERT book some indication on to what you are allowed.

"X-PERT Diabetes Handbook

Rated 4.75 out of 5 based on 4 customer ratings

(4 customer reviews)

£12.99

The X-PERT Diabetes Prevention & Management Handbook Version 14, updated in August 2019 is an 161-page comprehensive summary of the X-PERT Diabetes & X-POD Programmes."

xperthealth.org.uk/product/...

I go for blood check twice a year (HbA1c), foot and eye check once a year.

I better stop.

Good luck.

Good post by Sandy.. I think other members could also participate as well..

Since this post is being read by all members , I would have preferred if Sandy could have posted his recent blood report indicating HBA1C, Lipid numbers, Kidney function tests including Micro-albuminurea/ACR, Liver function test , hsCRP, BP, his current weight, and any other recent reports if he has done such as 2D Ecko, Dexa scan, ultrasonography of lower abdomen which would cover kidney, Liver to indicate fatty liver status, prostate...

And also if you have any symptoms like pain, sleeplessness - not depending upon any external drugs, you may please write so for benefit of members and may be some members can also give you a solution for your benefit.

Please remember that the above tests are very highly relevant to diabetes condition and one would come to know if a diet taken by him is being well accepted by the body or not and whether a particular diet is suitable for his long term health.

While diabetic complications like leg pain due to neuropathy, Osteopenia (poor bone health) or eye sight can be seen, felt, checked physically and can be caught at early stage and corrective action be taken and diabetes can not die,

but unfortunately most diabetes die out of either Heart failure or kidney failure (few cases have already happened in the forum) and the good news is that both of these conditions can be caught early to a great extent if the above tests and it's implications are understood in the first place and carried out by diabetes regularly.

Anyone is welcome to seek clarification if someone has not understood the details of any of the tests mentioned above and interested to understand more... 🙏
