If one starts using insulin can it be stopped once sugar levels are under control or should it be used lifelong?

You can stop insulin therapy at any time. But you should bear in mind that your blood glucose level control has only short term effect. When you stop insulin therapy, your blood sugar level may shoot upwards and may cause diabetic complications in future.
