There are three types of diabetes:

1.Type 1 also called early onset or juvenile diabetes. This appears at a very young age and the person has to depend on insulin injections for life because his pancreatic gland is totally incapable of producing any insulin.Insulin is essential for converting glucose that we consume into energy.

2.Type 2. This occurs at a later stage in life ,generally after 30 years of age.The reasons could be genetic, sedentary life style, obesity and high stress for prolonged periods or a combination of all. Such a person may take recourse to oral medication or insulin injections or both.

3.Gestational diabetes occurs in some pregnant women and may disappear after child birth.Obviously, they need special care and monitoring.
