Not me. I have back, neck and shoulder pain and pain caused by a hernia that can't be repaired. I get some hand soreness, nothing major. I attribute that to arthritis,, not my PD. I've had PD over 15 years.

I have a lot of pain in my hands and wrist. I think it may be because I lift myself up with my arms so much. I use one of those wrist bands you can get at the drug store and it seems to help. Blessings.

Yes, indeed! The knuckles on the four fingers of my right hand ache, especially in the morning. Making a fist is painful, and at its worst I cant cut with scissors or open a tightly sealed jar. (I am 58, male, dx 11/2010). I have pain in the corresponding part of the toes of my right foot as well. Neuro prescribed a night splint and ibuprophen and the disconfort has abated to a tolerable level. So I have decided, with my neuro's approval, to just sit back and see what happens.

I have blogged here about this before, and there were many comments. Daisybell, try the search. And my best wishes to you.

Try "swelling in right hand" and "Has anyone noticed a change in their hand that has a tremor?"

Many thanks to all who responded to my query. I have seen my dr today and will also ask neurologist next month. My doctor prescribed a night-splint and stronger pain killers so, fingers crossed (no pun intended) it will sort itself out.

Thanks again, DAISYBELL6

I often wake up with a lot of pain in my hands during the night. They are very painful in the morning and take a long time to get better throughout the day. My PD is worse on the left than the right though both hands are affected. I wear braces at night and often during the day. My feet have also become very painful when I stand but get better as I walk around.

I also take Ibuprophen, I am considering another neutraceutical from cactus concentrates. I do have arthriis in other joints, I was a runner and gymnast for many years. My hands have not been x-rayed but the GP thinks they look arthritic. The pain was never this bad prior to the PD. If the cactus extract helps at all I will certainly be posting it in the future.

Sounds much like myself. I can relate. No braces but use yoga stretchers for fingers and toes and seem to help. Left side worse for me also. I was runner forever and have had 9 knee ops. Sure that has not helped the matter much either.

9 knee ops...I am also a nurse, I avoid surgery at all cost. I had one knee surgery, it did not help, only made things worse. Of course, then, they tell me I need a total knee, that was at 40, I am now 51 and still think I am too young to have it. My neighbor had both of hers done, much better but says they don't feel like part of her body.

Age in itself sucks, but with the limitations and pain with PD it can become even tougher!

I went to a Stem Cell seminar where I live in Port St Lucie, Fl. The Clinic is in Jupiter,Fl. Two doctors from that clinic answered every one's questions after describing the injections that they use to relieve knee and hip pain. They brought a patient who had phenomenal results which were verified by the before and after Xrays. One injection of thousands of umbilical cord cells that would have been discarded after a healthy baby was born were injected, and because they are not rejected and adapt to whatever part of the body they are put in and there are no surgical procedures or side effects, I will probably have the procedure done in the future after it is covered by insurance. By the way, the doctor uses it himself. It's worth a try. The Name is REJUVA Stem Cell Clinic. Hope this info helps you.

I had a uncle that once told me that if I planned on getting old, I needed to be tough because old age is not for whimps. I understand what he was talking about, even though I am only 47 now. This stuff is really a game changer. I just can't believe how just 5 years ago I was playing golf and still working and now can't drive and use a walker to help get around. What happened?????

DB, I'm sure that, as an 11 year "veteran", you are well aware of this, but I find that night or morning hand cramps are often caused or made worse by dehydration. Increasing water or liquids makes mine go away.

I thought you said while walking and was going to advise you to refrain from doing handstands but realised that you said "WAKING". Sorry.

Ok I am just 1 year ahead of you with PD - it's not a contest though" - you can go first if you like.

Yes All my joints and lower back are very painful on awakening but I do a series of exercises - mostly stretching and it goes off after a while. Told that it goes with the PD territory after so long.

I had this occur rather suddenly in the course of two weeks. I would wake up with my joints aching in my wrists and fingers then burning. After a couple weeks, my ring finger and pinky on my right hand (my main PD side) were numb. I first thought that I had just slept on them "wrong" but for two weeks? I think that I had my hands under the pillow in odd positions and since we do not exactly toss and turn at night my hands just locked in one position and caused some nerve damage on just the one side. The pain went away on its own and the numbness is just now starting to disappear after two months. That confirms it for me that it is lack of moving at night, I am beginning to think of setting a gentle alarm every 2-3 hours reminding me to move!
