Air pollution is linked to PD

In a recent study, more than 270,000 people were followed for almost 20 years in six European countries where regular measurements of outdoor air quality take place. In the open air, the researchers looked separately at particulate matter (solid particles smaller than 2.5 micrometres, often contaminated with heavy metals), nitrogen dioxide, black carbon and ozone. The first three showed a positive link to death from Parkinson's; ozone did not. Particulate matter seems to be the most strongly related to Parkinson's, strikingly also at exposure levels below the 'safe' European limit values.

The conclusion is that this study is strong evidence of a link between air pollution and death from Parkinson's disease, and that long-term exposure to particulate matter contributes most to this.

Wouldn't be surprised, plus back until the 80s-90s the gasoline contained lead and industrial polution was much worse.

When the British doctor James Parkinson 'discovered' the disease in the early nineteenth century, he already noticed that the trembling, bent-over men with a deviant way of moving were lapping their days in the heavily polluted London 'smog'. He had no idea yet of the cause of the disease, but already suspected a role for serious environmental pollution. So indeed no surprise...

The problem with this focus on toxins, blaming the pollution for the disease, rather than acknowledging it as a contributor, is that it fails to explain the disease. What I refer to as the "serge paradox"When I was diagnosed 6 years ago the neurologist commented "we get a lot of Parkinson's disease here because of all the vineyard spraying"

But exposure to those chemicals does NOT CAUSE parkinson's disease. If it did, then Serge would have it, Serge is in his 80s and regularly sprays the vines in an open cab tractor with no protective clothing (he wears nitrile gloves), and he's been doing that all his life.

In a village in the mountains surrounded by vineyards, out of a population of 100 adults, I am the only one with PD.

The real question is why do toxins NOT cause PD in 99%of the population?

And why did king David have it?

Answer that and you're getting somewhere

The link has been demonstrated, and it was precisely in France among winegrowers that this was established for the first time. For you to make light of it easily, as if at a birthday party with too much wine, by saying that Serge has nothing to worry about after a lifetime of applying pesticides does not strike me as very serious. As I told you before, not everyone who smokes automatically gets lung cancer, but the risk increases significantly. Fortunately, the agricultural sector in the Netherlands has now been alerted after similar results and there is also discussion from farmers about further limiting certain pesticides, as well as further toxic emissions. That this is not the only cause of the alarming increase in PD is obvious. Of course, with the changing lifestyle that we as PWP are now so diligently working on, we should have started 30 years earlier.

The fact is that apart from an ageing population, PD has increased by 30 per cent over the past 10 years, with one in three being under the age of 65 and more and more people in their thirties, twenties and teens being diagnosed with PD.

Wondering indeed what the PD trigger was with King David. Surely there is something to learn from that too. Let’s fight PD with an open mind.

But you won’t cure PD stubbornly looking in the wrong place. If you could clear the planet of chemicals people would still get PD. We need to understand why. Then we might be able to fix it

You will have to try to “cure” PD, but at the same time try to fight the PD pandemic and limit the symptoms as much as possible for PWP. Given their lifestyle and environmental factors, my children are even more likely to develop PD or other diseases. That is not necessary if we urgently take better care of ourselves and the earth. If a PD pill is also available by then, that would of course be wonderful, but only waiting for that seems to me an ostrich attitude.

I don't light the wood burner to reduce exposure to those pm2.5 particulates. I'm not very popular at home because of it.

For the sweet peace at home and those who want to fire clean and responsibly, you should definitely consider the purchase of a wood smoke filter. It is a catalyst specially designed to reduce the emission of odour and particulate matter in the flue gases from chimneys.

Highlights

•We study the association of long-term air pollution exposure with Parkinson’s Disease (PD)

•Our study among 271,720 ELAPSE cohort participants noted 381 deaths from PD.

•We find that long-term exposure to PM2.5, NO2 and BC are associated with risk of PD death.

Associations persist at low levels of pollutant concentration, below current EU standards.

•Our study adds strong evidence in support of an association between air pollution and PD.

Thats a stretch. It seems that they can come to any conclusion that they want. 381 deaths by PD out of 271,720 participants ( 0.0014 %) who all will die someday especially in a world that does not recognize death by PD. . How many of the participants ate cheese or drove a car vs walked, if you look hard enough you can find a coincidental relationship with anything . Not good science using the fear mongering language "are associated " "strong evidence" in other words they need more money to do another survey. The numbers would indicate that they proved that PD is not associated . The exact opposite. Typical European study where the people believe what ever they are told to believe . The govenments in Europe have decided to blame environmental issues on everything and accusing someone who is not happy with bad science of having a closed mind is also typical european thinking to sway the uneducated masses the same way that was done so many times in the past. Why do the institutions in Europe always treat the population like dumb sheep, and why does the population stand for it.

Why does this give me a bitter taste in my mouth. Indeed we have a different culture from the US and apparently Canada. In Europe, the governments are indeed trying to get a little more grip on the washouts of capitalist society. Unfortunately, they are only partially succeeding, but it is becoming increasingly clear that we have gone overboard with our consumerism. Probably in the "free" American world, that sounds like swearing in church and we are immediately labelled communists. Apparently, we are back in the 1950s. Fortunately, there are more and more critical citizens in this part of the world who are looking for different values and standards. The percentage of meek sheep in Europe and America will not be much different.

Although I am just the messenger bringing this research to your attention, I think it is only right to take a critical look at what is actually being claimed here, but please leave out this kind of political posturing.
