After more than 4 years with Madopar, suddenly since last dezember i can’t take it anymore.

Since dezember i have dysentery that won’t go away and now after medical exam, i have an inflammation of the intestine….

if you had the same problem, what did you do ?

Have you spoken to your doctor about it?

of course and we are investigating, perhaps switching to sinemet or carbidopa/levadopa but not sure if it’s going to work

Are you sure it is the madopar and not an intestinal bug?

Are you taking melatonin by any chance?

good point, at this stage we are not sure and starting test.

I don’t take melatonin as melatonin increases my rls. What melatonin could do in this specific case ?

Melatonin can cause diarrhea.

is the Neupro patch worth investigating? It is a transdermal patch worn on the skin and Rotigotine is released into the skin over a 24 hour period.

It isn’t levadopa but a dopamine agonist but the delivery system might be suitable for your problem at the moment if you can no longer take Madopar.

Do you take probiotic supplements or eat probiotic foods such as naturally fermented sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir, kombucha, etc (preferably without added sugars)? Those are essential for healing the gut.

yes, in normal condition I eat naturally fermented but it is just not possible now

are you gluten free? If not I would try avoiding gluten and maybe dairy to see if it helps. Also have you changed diet over that time to include a lot of something you never ate much of before?

Have you looked up side effects of all your meds and supplements to see if this is a side effect of any of the others?

My hubby found levodopa had the opposite effect making him constipated when he increased it.

i was dairy free and before had the same reaction as your hubby when i increased levadopa. Waiting test result to see if i am now allergic to Madopar
