Vibrating gloves

Has anyone made their own vibrating gloves? Just read an article about Peter Tass at Stanford. I am rubbish at navigating the web but if anyone has experience in making these gloves I would love to have a go for my pwp who is pretty advanced. We don’t have a whole lot to look forward to but it would be a fun winter activity to try and get something like this to work.

The BBC broadcast a documentary about a Microsoft project to make a vibrating device to reduce tremor. This became known as the Emma watch. Me and, I think, a couple of others on the Neurotalk forum tried to build DIY versions. Building a prototype was quite easy using an Arduino. I gave up when I couldn't find frequencies that work for me.

Gloves that just vibrate already exist. What makes the Tass gloves special seems to be that they deliver a different pattern to each of the four fingers on each hand. Each finger receives a series of stimuli in a sequence relative to the other fingers, so the overall effect is the brain gets feedback from the fingers that they are operating independently from each other, rather than all shaking(tremor) or contracting(dystonia) etc. at once in synchronization. The staggered impulses coming from the fingers break up or de-synchronize the problematic synchronized neuronal pathways in the brain. Even better, the effect propagates or spreads through the brain beyond hand control.

People have mentioned in other related threads that they've tried simpler vibrating devices that don't work or been told, like the "Steadiwear" glove, that the devices are more for essential tremor and not parkinson's.

I am watching and rewatching a you tube with Dr Tass explaining what he is doing. I hope i can get my husband on the clinical trial - might be too late and fauling that enlist my very clever son in law to make one. Her's hoping. Thank you for exaining in laymans terms. Most helpful

Take a look at clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show... and see if your husband would meet eligibility criteria. They are not yet recruiting. I believe you would have to go to California (Stanford) to participate.

"The problematic synchronized neuronal pathways " is a theory that makes a lot of sense. One thing that kind of makes me pessimistic is that the gloves from the Peter Tass lab were created more than 3 years ago and it was presented as a breakthrough tech (at least I got this impression from the youtube videos). So, if it's so revolutionary why is it still not on the market yet? I know there are regulatory obstacles and such, but still... Maybe it's not as effective as it was initially thought. Maybe they overhyped the effectiveness to obtain research and development funds, idk. But, there's still hope!

Agreed. I think FDA hurdles can take years so the length of time does not bother me. Just hope i can get enough info together to have a go. Husband curently using an eyeguide mc from the uk. It has helped a little but would love to get better results!

Hey! Here's a chart with frequences that Peter Tass is using in his gloves. I got it from a reputable source ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl.... I ordered 8 arduino vibration modules a couple of days ago to build a DIY device, because this therapy sounds too good to be true. If it works and has beneficial effects I'll make a post with all the details.

How is your progress? My initial idea was to simply use pager motors for vibration, until I realized they apparently make specific devices for this. Did you find a source for these devices? Do you have a Github?

There are still a few unresolved questions concerning the vibration pattern. I hope to connect with someone from the Peter Tass lab to clarify a few simple points. While it may not be in their best interest to share these details, I believe it is better to try than not to.

What about the Vilim ball? It's based on vibration therapy, my HWP has been using it since August. It's available on their website: vilim.lt/en/vilim-ball/

I'm also looking forward to the Charco Cue1 device, but they are not shipping it to the US yet as they are waiting on FDA approval. We have been on their waiting list for almost a year.

I have been following these last 18 months Peter Tass work, it is remarkable that it started 20+ years ago.

His vibration therapy aims to do what DBS is doing, but without surgery and much better : with DBS, the effects disappear when you stop the stimulation, and they over-stimulate. Here the treatment requires no surgery, the protocol leads to increasingly effective and lasting effects.

I think there’s probably zero risks in applying vibration to yourself but, when it comes to do it for lasting times , daily, it is possible that negative effects emerge, just like the positive do, if that makes sense.

My neurologist has already advised a year ago I get DBS, and sometimes I am simply tired of fighting, making DBS tempting. But otherwise, I am trying to be patient.

I know noth.ing about vibration therapy, but I bought, and have used for over 6 weeks a vibrating ball called veraball on amazon. It has reduced my tremors significantly. There def is something in vibrating that helps PD.

I don't know why the company doesn't mention it, but I believe the ball has 3 settings which I found by accident. To up the intensity of the vibrations press the spot between the lights up to 3 times. I use the 1st level.
