Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera), Ginkgo Biloba and Brahmi (Bacopa Monnieri) together?

I am aware that there are supplements combining Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera), Ginkgo Biloba and Brahmi (Bacopa Monnieri).

Is there any research against, or in favour of, the combination?

My view on Potions, Elixirs & Witches’ Brews

1) They are often very expensive.

2) Why not try and decide which ingredients work for you?

3) Decide for yourself, how much of this and how and of that?

4) As a general rule, I don’t trust people (doctors included) that lend their name to a product(s).

Thank you for your input. I am looking for research on the combination as each of them are proven to be brain beneficial on its own.

In terms of memory improvement, I saw the following work extremely well and still working :

In terms of memory improvement, Bacopa may not be all that it is hyped up to be according to this systematic review of randomized controlled trials :

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Here is a relevant quote :

' There was no difference between B. monnieri and the placebo or donepezil in the treatment of Alzheimer disease based on very low certainty evidence. '

I searched nih.gov with all the three keywords but only found research on singular components.

Nothing with Ashwagandha Ginkgo Biloba and Brahmi together

Hi Jay,

There are some significant differences between the study you sited and the review of multiple studies I sited, with the main glaring difference being, your study used

" healthy elderly volunteers " and the review of multiple studies used studies with people who actually had dementia.

While not definitive by any means, it does seem to suggest that bacopa can improve the cognitive function of healthy people, but not people who already have dementia.

Another consideration were the side effects mentioned in the sited study of "flu like symptoms" and "digestive problems". This further suggests that some people are not likely to tolerate bacopa.

In the other link I provided, you see that I did not use bacopa as one of the 5 supplements in that regimen and that was based on the available studies at the time I wrote that post about my 78 year old friend. I selected that regimen based on a review of over 50 supplements that are thought to improve memory issues and related studies and safety profiles. What I can see with my friends experience is that her memory is back to that of a 40 or 50 year old person and although she did not have a doctor's diagnosis of dementia, she clearly had symptoms of dementia and she was declining at a noticeably rapid rate, as in, her friends could see a difference from one visit to the next.

Hi Art,

I am not questioning nor comparing the studies. Thank you for your input.

I take Ashwaganda quite a lot, it's a natural enemy of cortisol which is released when under heavy stress and yep PD is a stress reaction but played out or expressed in your fight or flight response which is your sympathetic nervous system. Heavy cortisol release In the body over time is also a cause for dementia in the brain I have read also. It's pretty easy to read up on. I believe this is a very good sup got those with PD.

As per below link, Ginkgo should not be taken with Folic Acid or Melatonin. How to time Ginkgo intake with regards to these supplements?
