I would like to know if anyone in this community has experimented with the Coimbra Protocol (which, in short, consists of supplementing with high doses of vitamin D while being accompanied by a doctor).
If so, is your feedback positive?
Our functional medicine doctor recommended my husband to start this but the dosage of vitamin D is so high we are hesitant to give it a go.
Thank you,
Rita

I also do not know the Protocol but I take D3 (cholecalciferol) 7,000IU per day with K2. I feel D3, with or without Calcium, should always be taken with K2 to avoid calcification. A local (Wisconsin) doc doesn't run Vit. D tests anymore because everybody tested low.
my husband was given monthly 50000 unit capsules of vitamin d as he was deficient but he seemed to feel worse a few days later each time. Now he takes Hardys Den which has 4000 IU per day .
Well do you have any idea of your current Vitamin D levels ? And what is the Vit D levels you wish to attain?
P.S: My spouse did 10,000 IU per day for six months during the Covid scare and then tested at 53 mg/dl. One year later without supplementation she was down to 44 mg/dl.
It's been a while since I've looked into this in detail, but I recall reading evidence in the scientific literature that said daily supplementation is better than huge monthly doses.
I think the big doses are more likely to have adverse effects than daily smaller doses.
For 30+ years we've taken 4000 IU in winter and 2000 when we get some sunshine. Lately, we've switched my husband to 4000 all year as he works indoors all the time.
Originally, we followed Jonathan Wright's protocol. These past 10+ years we've learned a lot from Ray Peat.
