C/l dosage

My neurologist started me on c/l 1/2 pill(25-100) twice a day 8 hours apart .after 13 days switched me to 1/2 pill 3 times a day. Up to that point I had been taking 1000mg of b1. My tremors became more frequent and intense.,jittery, some involuntary jerking movements . I stopped taking b1 temporarily because someone said it could be a side effect of too much b1. I have not noticed any improvement since starting c/l and cutting b1. The neurologist is trying the medication to determine if I have Parkinson's not Parkinsonism. How long does it take to determine this? What is considered a high dose of c/l.my family thinks that I have stronger voice and PT thinks that I am a little less rigid. Should I go back on b1,when and how much should I take?

Any suggestions for tremors. I'm trying cinnamon at about 2tsps per day in applesauce..Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Very important to make the distinction between tremors, which are regular shakes several times per second, and dyskinesias, which are involuntary jerks at a lower repetition rate. Dyskinesias are the result of too much levodopa, which is especially prone to happen with the immediate release version of C/L, which is likely what you have.

See here for the difference between immediate release and controlled release C/L:

I do recommend weighing out the cinnamon for best control over dosage. It does not cause tremors or dyskinesias to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks what is the cinnamon good for? My hand shakes not just my thumb and pointer finger. The left hand sometimes shakes too.

If you have not seen it already my report on cinnamon is here:

It improved my motor impairment noticeably but did not seem to affect my tremor.

Some people need to take a good quality multi vitamin such as EmergenC with the B1 to enable it to work properly

C/L 25/100mg, Instant Release. The recommended maximum single dose is three and one-half tablets.

You titrate up until you get relief of symptoms. You back down to the lowest dose that works

31/2 tablets how many times a day? I'm taking 11/2 am,I eight hours later, another 1 eight hours after. It is c/l (25-100) I think it is instant release

in reply to Smittybear7

Doses not less than 4 hrs apart.

in reply to Smittybear7

Try lower single dose. As little that still keeps symptoms controlled

Hi Smitty:

I strongly recommend you stop "doing stuff" (ie, starting new supplements, changing the dose of supplements, stopping supplements) until you neurologist is done "trying the medication to determine if I have Parkinson's not Parkinsonism".

It shouldn't take too long. It depends on when/if you respond, and if you don't, at what dose does she/he stop the test...

Is there a typical dose when the issues go away? My neurologist looked at the list of supplements and said to continue. The only change I made was stopping the b1. He is adjusting the dosage of c/ l .what is considered a high dose of c/l ?Thanks for your help and advice

"Is there a typical dose when the issues go away?"

No. Everyone is different, but since you are just starting out, I take a guess that you will not need more than 1 x 25/100 c/l tablet 3 times a day.

"What is considered a high dose of c/l ?"

Dr. Ahlskog has never seen a patient that needed more than 3 x 25/100 c/l tablets per dose.

Thanks so much! I'm scared and trying my best to be positive. Do you take b1?

in reply to Smittybear7

No I do not take it. IMHO, the only way you can effectively deal with PD is with PD meds.

Do you mean 3 tablets at a time or 3 over the course of a day. 3 tabs a day is not much

in reply to Nitro53

per dose (I updated the text)

"Dr. Ahlskog has never seen a patient that needed more than 3 x 25/100 c/l tablets per dose."

I started taking ½ tabs for quite a while until I could tolerate full tabs. at 3 x 25/100 tabs a day after about 2 - 3 months my tremors were very controlled.
