Critique My Supplement Stacking? Share Your Protocol?

Update: I can be such an idiot. I have not been diagnosed with PK. I have REM Sleep Behavior Disorder and my neurologist was kind enough to let me know PK is in my future (and/or LBD). My supplement list is intended to keep PK and LBD away (though truth be told my balance is not what it used to be, and neither is my sense of smell).

This is my supplement stack as of today. Any advice is welcome, and please share your own protocol too!

For those not familiar with me, I did not go to college so take my selections with a grain of salt.

Morning:

B1 Thiamin HCL 500 mg.

Lunch:

Magnesium L-Threonate 1000 mg.

Lion's Mane 1000 mg.

Probiotics (rotating through whatever seems useful for PK or depression)

Cod Liver Oil 400 mg (hey, this only gives me 17% of daily Vit D).

Zinc 50 mg.

1 gram of Ceylon Cinnamon in my coconut milk smoothie.

Dinner:

750 mg of Myo-Inositol and 100 mcg of L-selenomethionine.

Magnesium L-Threonate 1000 mg.

Later:

600 mg of NAC and 1000 mg of Glycine.

CBD Oil

10 mg of Melatonin.

I do this on top of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet combined with 8/16 intermittent fasting.

Suggestions? What is your routine (if you would like to share)?

My husband died, but10 mg melatonin given at 4 pm and again around 9 pm stopped his sundowning, where he would escape at night and end up in a ditch.

So sorry to hear about your husband passing. Interesting that melatonin stopped his sundowning. How was he between 4 and 9 PM on the melatonin?

Other than all the other problems he had, he was the same between 4 and 9 as before he started taking more melatonin. He always took some when he went to bed, but it was my idea to give him another dose before the sun went down, and it worked.

So no l-dopa/mucuna puriens at all? Or are these just in addition to that? I'm trying to build my own protocol as well; so far just mucuna + b1 + magnesium threonate (and cannabis for stress/sleep). I only recently learned about the Ceylon cinnamon, but my next piece to figure out is the carb/gut connection. Do you have a good resource or article/book for the diet piece?

I updated my post. I have not been diagnosed with PK. I have REM Sleep Behavior Disorder so no l-dopa/mucana puriens.

So diet. Or as some like to think, fixing the microbiome (although they are not necessarily the same thing.

- Most PK groups say to go Mediterranean diet.

- But some people preach keto for PK. Keto fuels your brain differently and that may be good for PK.

- I think of fixing the microbiome, and I found a study showing the Specific Carbohydrate Diet can normalize the microbiome of IBD patients journals.lww.com/ajg/fullte...

This makes me think SCD is a good diet. I layer it on top of Wahls Paleo Plus Keto diet (I only eat foods that are on both diet's approved lists). Here is the SCD diet page: breakingtheviciouscycle.info/

Here is an interview with Terry Wahls of the Wahls protocol: youtu.be/xIurbDArpEU

Good luck and good bless and don't forget: I am not a smart person.

I say this with compassion; stop it with diminishing yourself. I shudder to think what your self talk is like if this is what you tell others. It is deeply unhealthy. And, as someone with health issues, you need to practice advocating for yourself not beating yourself up. Furthermore, in my experience it is the people who question their intelligence who generally are more intelligent than those who are confident with no self reflection.

I intend on responding later with questions and input about the intended subject.

Thank you cclemonade. My wife hates that I do this. On these forums I fear people will follow my uneducated lead, but it is true I do the same thing in my non-medical life. Thank you.

I take 10 supplements including 10mg of melatonin, plus Rytary, car/lev 50-200 ER, terazosin, roprinerole, naproxen sodium, a benzo and gabapentin. Sleep is still iffy.

Please be careful with melatonin it can cause strokes if you have heart disease.

And here is a paper presenting the contrary view, that melatonin is “a potent therapeutic for stroke and stroke-related dementia”

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Melatonin-based therapies have been shown to provide neuroprotective effects in the setting of ischemic stroke by mitigating neuroinflammation and accelerating brain tissue restoration.

I just started taking 600 mg of NAC and 1000 mg of Glycine about 9 minutes before bed and I am sleeping like a rock. Also taking the 10 mg of melatonin.

I think they say if the NAC is going to do cleanup it is going to be at night so that is a good time to take it.

I watched this great video on circadian rhythms and it really made me think about timing things: youtu.be/J9VtMh6uN-E

My hwp is up to 20 mg melatonin a night for REM sleep disorder diagnosed 8 years ago (2 yrs before PD diag.) - (I diagnosed both 9 years ago) Anyway, he takes 10mg regular mel. + 10mg extended release melatonin - as often, his disturbances are 3-4-5 am. I might change to 20mg extended release only - trying now to see how this works -

Also - because his REM SD could get so intense - they tried Clonazepam 2 different times - we gave it a go - but both times it just made his disturbances over-the-top BAD - he just can't take it. (Though some people swear by it.) They also tried Prazosin as an off-label adjunct for his sleep - but, ultimately just adjusting & upping the melatonin has worked the best for him.

Hi. While you are filling hm with chemicals you are doing nothing to reverse the progression of the Pd. If you want to know how to do that then contact me and he can then start getting better, if he puts his mind to it. IT COSTS NOTHING! I have been medication-free since 2002. I am 86 and live a normal life, although I dtill have Pd.

Ya we pretty much have found a chemical free life is a better one.
